Beauty and the Beast is a remake of the 1987 series of the same name. That show starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman and while it only lasted three seasons  it developed a very loyal fan base. This remake was not greeted with a lot of critical praise. The show begins in 2003 with Kristin Kreuk as Catherine Chandler. She works at a bar while preparing for her LSAT. She’s asked to close the bar, but when she tries to leave, her car won’t start, so she calls her mom. However, after her mom gets there, they are approached by two men. Her mother tells her to get in the car, but before she can, the men shoot her mother, so Cat runs into the woods. She doesn’t get too far before she trips and smacks her head. It looks like she will be killed, but then something attacks the two men and kills them. She can’t tell what it is, because of her concussion, but she thinks it is some kind of beast.Nine years later, Cat is a detective with the NYPD and while her mother’s murder hasn’t been solved yet, she’s mostly put it past her. However, that changes when there’s a new case she and her partner, Tess Vargas, are working on. There’s two main clues, a fingerprint and some DNA evidence. The DNA evidence is curious, as it points to mixed species. This is exactly what happened nine years ago with her mother’s murder. The finger print belongs to Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan) a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan years ago. While trying to find information on Vincent, she tracks down his old roommate, J.T. Forbes, and suspects he’s hiding something. She’s right, he’s hiding Vincent. Vincent underwent a super-soldier program in the military, but there were side effects. When angry, he transformers into a beast. He faked his death and is in hiding, because everyone else who underwent the procedure is dead. The company, Muirfield, killed everyone to cover their tracks, and they are willing to kill again to keep their secret. However, they didn’t count on Cat and Vincent teaming up to uncover what they covered up.Jay Ryan in Beauty and the Beast (2012)As I was watching the first season of Beauty and the Beast, It was slow at first, as the show was trying to find it’s feet, wth introduction of Sendhil Ramamurthy near the end of the season it did pick up.The cliffhanger does leave you clammering for more and thankfully this show did continue for another 3 seasons.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)Twenty-one-year-old Anastasia “Ana” Steele is an English literature major at Washington State University (“WSU”)’s satellite campus near Vancouver, Washington. When her roommate, Kate Kavanagh, becomes ill and is unable to interview Christian Grey, a 27-year-old billionaire entrepreneur, for the college newspaper, Ana agrees to go in her place. At Christian’s Seattle headquarters called Grey House, Ana stumbles her way through the meeting. Christian, who is that year’s WSU commencement speaker, takes an interest in her; soon after, he visits the hardware store where Ana works. He agrees to Ana’s request for a photo shoot to accompany the article for which Ana had interviewed him. Christian invites Ana for coffee, but he leaves abruptly, saying he is not the man for her. Christian later sends Ana first edition copies of two Thomas Hardy novels, including Tess of the d’Urbervilles, as a gift.Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)Ana and her friends celebrate graduation at a local bar. After drinking too much, Ana spontaneously calls Christian, saying she is returning the books and berates his behavior towards her. Christian goes to the bar and finds Ana, who passes out. She wakes up the next morning in Christian’s hotel room, relieved that they were not intimate. Ana and Christian begin seeing each other, though he insists that she sign a non-disclosure agreement preventing her from revealing details about their dalliance. Christian explains that he only has interrelations involving bondage that is clearly defined in a signed contract. Ana reveals that she is a virgin. While considering the agreement and negotiating her own terms, and after visiting his “playroom”, a room stocked with a variety of BDSM toys, furniture, and gear, she and Christian have sex.Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)Christian bestows Ana with gifts and favors, such as a new car and laptop computer. After Ana and Kate move to Seattle, Ana continues seeing Christian. During dinner at Christian’s parents, Ana suddenly mentions she is leaving the next day to visit her mother in Georgia. Later, Christian becomes frustrated when Ana expresses she wants more than the one-sided relationship he proposes. She is shocked when Christian unexpectedly arrives in Georgia, they have coitus again but he leaves soon afterward, to tend to an emergency in Seattle. After returning home, Ana continues seeing Christian, who wants further sexual experimentation. Ana initially consents, but Christian keeps emotionally distant, upsetting her. While still considering the contract, and in an effort to understand Christian psychologically, Ana asks him to demonstrate how he would “punish” her for rule breaking. Christian whips Ana’s buttocks six times with a belt. Upset and disgusted, Ana breaks up with Christian after concluding that he is wrong for her and his practices border on being deviant and excessive. In an alternative ending, both Ana and Christian experience flashbacks. Christian jogs in the rain, while Ana sobs in her apartment. Christian encounters a gift Ana gave him with the note: “This reminded me of a happy time. —Ana”Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)A given audience member’s reaction to this movie will likely be influenced by how she or he feels about Christian’s lifestyle, but evaluating this film solely on those criteria misses the point. Yes, the nudity and sex are enticing and anyone paying to see this movie for those scenes will be more than satisfied, but you’ll get more than eroticism for your money. Much like “Boogie Nights”, director Paul Thomas Anderson’s engrossing 1997 meditation on the 70s porn industry, this film is an examination of human relationships. “Fifty Shades of Grey” is a love story, a parable of male and female emotional and sexual roles in the 21st century and an exploration of a lifestyle which many people know very little about, but very few know much. Basically, this is simply an entertaining movie. Casting little-known actors in the main roles is very effective and both show more emotional range than I expected from simply watching the movie’s theatrical trailer. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson paces the movie well and she skillfully balances the film’s salacious nature with its deeper meanings.

Long before comic book superhero TV shows were as common as they are today, the WB launched a live-action Birds of Prey TV series that lasted just thirteen episodes.

Having discovered that Helena is Huntress, Harley Quinn uses a machine that gives her metahuman hypnotic powers. She then hypnotizes Helena and persuades her to knock Barbara unconscious and steal an access disk. Barbara recovers and uses her subneural device to enable her to stand and fight Helena, eventually neutralizing the trance. But Harley uses the disk to gain complete control of the clock tower and, after killing Wade, she broadcasts the hypnotic signal to every television set in New Gotham. Working together with Alfred, Dinah, and Reese, Helena must infiltrate the clock tower and battle Harley and her cohorts before they gain control of the entire city. It is hinted that Bruce Wayne/Batman is probably still alive, as just before the end credits, Alfred speaks to “Master Bruce” on the phone at Wayne Manor, talking about his daughter Helena and that he would be proud of her.

This episode is probably tied with episode eight, “Shiva,” for my favourite of the series. Everything the show did a lot of things right, as it did here. I would have been down for another season of it, especially after seeing this episode. A great ending to a series tat hopefully one day will be fondly remembered

Chronicles the rise to power of Mary Queen of Scots (Kane) when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her four best friends as ladies-in-waiting. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue.                I stumbled upon Reign because of Adelaide Kane who had portrayed Tenaya on Power Rangers RPM. Once I started watching, I was intrigued. The series focuses on the young Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots and her years at French Court. While many might say that it is only a teen drama, I disagree. It is funny and dramatic, has so many loving characters that you do get quite attached to, and tells stories that intrigue to watch more. You get to know so much about the characters’ back stories and their lives before the show picks up. This makes it easy to feel with the characters and develop a soft spot for the one or other while despising others. How often have a I sat in front of the screen screaming and crying, laughing and in total delight? You get to know the politics and views of the 16th century. You find yourself entangled in a world that still believes in witch-craft and where poison was a common tool. The series is easy to relate to if you are just the tiniest bit interested in history. It is fast paced and has a lot happening (very refreshing when you got annoyed with The Tudors not moving forward but having the same issues for an entire season). The first three seasons cover Mary Stuarts return to French Court, her life as wife and queen as well as her return to her own throne. I was so excited to see how it ends. It made me really sad to hear that season 4 was going to be the last one, because many more stories could be told. But. For everyone who is looking for historic accuracy to the very last point, this show is not what you might like. Many dates, faces and customs have been turned upside down. But for someone who wants to watch an entertaining, exciting and dramatic series with strong characters, amazing settings and costumes as well as some superior acting (especially on Megan Follows’ part), and the best soundtrack I have heard in a long time, this series is a must-see. You will need tissues for the final episode.

After his girlfriend Tracy breaks up with him, Erik Stifler and his friend Mike “Cooze” Coozeman arrive at the University of Michigan as freshmen. On arriving at his dorm, Erik meets a girl named Ashley while she is taking a shower in the coed bathrooms. He then meets his new roommate Bobby and his girlfriend Margie while they are having sex. Erik is then welcomed by his cousin, Dwight Stifler, the leader of the Beta House fraternity, who invites Erik, Cooze, and Bobby to a Beta House party. They meet Wesley, the rush chair of Beta House who experiences blackouts after drinking alcohol, and learn how they can gain eligibility to pledge for the Beta House. They are also informed by Dwight that the Geek House, formed by wealthy nerds, has been trying to shut down Beta House.Erik and Ashley begin dating, but on their first date at a restaurant, Erik has hot soup spilled accidentally on his legs, so Ashley brings him to her room to clean up. As Ashley rubs lotion on Erik’s thigh, he develops an involuntary erection and accidentally ejaculates over her possessions. Erik apologizes and explains to Ashley that, after breaking up with Tracy, he has not ejaculated in four months, masturbation being a taboo in his house because of a previous incident. Meanwhile, Cooze falls in love with Ashley’s roommate Denise; however, she is nervous about showing her genitalia and having sex with him, so she gives Cooze a handjob instead. After talking with Erik, Bobby, and Dwight about Denise, Cooze develops suspicions that Denise might have a penis, so Dwight encourages him to find out.Along with two other pledges, Erik, Cooze, and Bobby complete fifty tasks to pledge the Beta House, including: getting their posteriors signed by a stripper, having sex with a professor, marrying a fellow pledge in Canada, and placing a live ostrich in the Geek House. While completing these tasks the Beta House members are banned from the Silver Dollar, their favorite strip club and bar, after the Geek House buys the locale. After they complete their final task (stealing something from the Geek House), Edgar, the president of the Geek House, challenges the Beta House to the Greek Olympiad, with the winners taking the loser’s House. Before the competition starts, Dwight learns from Rock that while attempting to join the midget fraternity, Edgar had sex with a sheep previously.Being the Olympiad’s last winner, Beta House alumnus Noah Levenstein returns to campus to officiate the competition. The first game is won by Beta House as Dwight and Edgar compete in removing girls’ brassieres. Geek House win the next three matches: a pugil bout turned lightsaber duel, catching a greased pig, and a two-person “69” race. Beta House wins the fifth and sixth competitions: a Russian roulette challenge between Dwight and Edgar with aged horse semen; and a beer drinking competition between all members of both Houses ultimately won by Wesley via a keg stand.During the final striptease challenge, Beta House uses Edgar’s wool fetish against him with Margie wearing a sheep costume, resulting in the Geek House losing the Greek Olympiad. Having won the Geek House mansion as well as its members, the Beta House hosts a toga party, while Erik comes up with the idea of a new pledge task for the Beta House – having sex in a movie theater. He does so with Ashley in a makeshift theater in his room. Meanwhile, Cooze and Denise finally sleep together, and Cooze discovers that what Denise is hiding is the fact that she ejaculates during sex, much to his excitement. The following morning, Wesley wakes up after a blackout and discovers that he had sex with the Geek House female bodybuilder. In a post-credits scene, Edgar instructs a stripper at the Silver Dollar to dance with the headpiece of the sheep costume.Once more they managed to increase the amount of nudity compared to the previous pies. Nevertheless there is some kind of story and a lot of funny situations.

The show is based on a real life Toronto police unit similar to SWAT but with their own integral negotiators. This is a brilliant set up because every episode can go either way with a brutal violent conclusion or the culprit talked down peacefully. The issues are dealt with in a mature and considered fashion which rather excellently means that the person with the gun is not always the baddy.

FLASHPOINT The team is rather more imaginatively put together than in most similar shows. The team leader (Enrico Colantoni) is the cuddly negotiator whilst two bullet headed middle-aged men (Hugh Dillon and Michael Cram) are his subordinates. They have similar but different home lives and chat through raising teenagers on the way to work. A black junior policeman (Mark Taylor) and an Italian junior policeman (Sergio di Zio) have minor roles but occasionally get their moment in the limelight and both rise to the challenge when they do. David Paetkau plays the ex-special forces sniper who has transfered in. His difficulties integrating and changing his focus from killing to resolving the situation are well handled and his dark back story is mercifully not as overblown as it easily could be. The last team member is Amy Jo Johnson (the only american on the cast) who is the beautiful woman who has to struggle to maintain her position on the team.FLASHPOINT Each show starts with a quick introduction to a perilous situation and then winds back a few hours to see how the problem started. We then build up to the point where police must start making life and death decisions. There are a few running storylines throughout the shot, but most episodes can be seen as standalone. The Show lasted five seasons and does bring us to a satisfied finale, only season one is available on DVD in the UK but many imports can be found on various sites.

untitled-3-copyLoosely based on DC Comics and a variety of other sources with a touch of Marvel’s the X-Men thrown in, the series continues the legend of The Batman. We enter the future, dark and fantastic world of New Gotham City. Long after The Batman has driven himself into exile, his legacy lives on in the form of the Birds of Prey – Black Canary, Oracle, and the Huntress. From the creators of the CW hit Smallville, Birds of the Prey was produced in 2002 for the now defunct WB, but had only 13 episodes before cancellation. Since then, its devoted fan base worked tirelessly to have the series released on DVD. It was a really exciting action show, breaking new ground because ALL of the lead characters were women. This boxed set collects all 13 episodes and a never-collected-on-DVD before Flash-animated series “Gotham Girls.” Awesomely, it also includes the unaired pilot, which featured Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks) in the role of Dr. Quinzel. Mia Sara was later cast as Quinzel in the series. She also appeared in the AIRED pilot. Interestingly, all of the scenes featuring the character in the AIRED pilot were reshot with Sara, word-for-word. Also of note, the aspect ratio of the episodes in the set will be full frame, but will have dark bars on top and on bottom to mimic widescreen. While normal citizens slept, the Birds of Prey flocked together to fight crime on the streets of New Gotham City. Several years after the city was abandoned by Batman, the awesome threesome of Huntress (Ashley Scott), Oracle (Dina Meyer), and Black Canary (Rachel Skarsten) was formed. Huntress is the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, and can smell danger from miles away. Black Canary has the gift of clairvoyance and Oracle leads the team through her cyber experience, despite being wheelchair bound by Batman’s nemesis, the evil Joker. When the series opens, we learn that New Gotham’s Batman has disappeared leaving behind a daughter from his long-time love Catwoman. Her name is Helena Kyle, who transforms herself into the mysterious superhero known as “The Huntress.” Helena has hypersensitive senses and agility, but uses her gifts selfishly. Fate brings her face-to-face with her choices as well as a wheel-chair-bound Barbara Gordon, the hero Oracle, who befriends her but agrees to train her only if she uses her powers for good.splash_780-1376-720x340She teams up with Barbara, who had been “Batgirl” prior to being paralyzed by the Joker. By day, Barbara is a teacher at New Gotham High, but by night she fights crime from her secret lair in the New Gotham Clock Tower. The two meet a determined Dinah Redmond, a young woman who was drawn to New Gotham to learn more about her powers. Dinah is a touch-telepath and psychic who had terrifying dreams about Batgirl’s brutal incident that resulted in her paralysis. The Huntress resists working with Dinah, but Oracle convinces her to give the younger woman a chance. Now, they must learn not only how to work together as New Gotham’s protectors, but also as a family.Special recognition goes to Mark “Star Wars” Hamill who briefly reprises his award-winning voice role as the Joker from the iconic classic, Batman: the Animated Series. In Birds of Prey, “Mister J” on-camera is portrayed by actor/stuntman Roger Stoneburner but Hamill’s voice was dubbed over Stoneburner’s performance.  During the course of the series, the women are often confronted with schemes masterminded by the Joker’s on-and-off girlfriend, psychiatrist Dr. Harleen “Harley Quinn” Quinzel (Mia Sara), but they always prevail and eventually beat her at her own game.jsyjp3Other characters of note are: Alfred Pennyworth (Ian Abercrombie), who serves Helena as heir to the Wayne estate, and Police Detective Jesse Resse (Shemar Moore), confronted with crimes and abilities he cannot explain. A central feature of the series is the concept of metahumans: Individuals born with powers that cannot be explained. No two metahumans have the same specific ability (or set of abilities) and there exists a whole sub culture of metahuman society that the outside world knows nothing about. It is this world that Detective Reese is drawn into, reluctantly teaming up with Huntress and the Birds of Prey to defeat metahuman criminals. At first, he is disapproving of Helena’s vigilantism, even trying to arrest her, but eventually he realizes there is a need for the Birds of Prey to take down criminals the police can’t handle. Episodes in this four-disc collection are: the Pilot; Slick; Prey for the Hunter; Three Birds and a Baby; Sins of the Mother; Primal Scream; Split; Lady Shiva; Nature of the Beast; Gladiatrix; Reunion; Feat of Clay; and Devil’s Eyes. Very popular theme song “Revolution” was performed by Aimee Allen.
