Betty is at her desk working on an expense report for Daniel when Henry comes by and asks her if she’s making her Christmas list. He spots mistletoe on her desk. She says it’s just holly, but he kisses her anyway and tells her she’s the girl he’s been looking for. But it looks like this was all a fantasy as Betty wakes up in a shock from this dream and glares at the photo of Walter by her bed before throwing the sheets over her face. Back at Daniel’s place, Sofia wakes up beside Daniel. Worried that she will miss her flight, she says that they need a breather so they can see if what they have is real. He insists that he loves her but Sofia says it’s just hormones and sex. If this is real, he should see other women while she’s gone. If he doesn’t get sweaty palms with them, maybe he does love her. He says that this is crazy but she tells him that this will convince her that he really feels this only for her. Back at the Suarezes, Betty tells Hilda her dream, but Hilda tells her that dreams don’t mean anything and tells her sister should just avoid Henry and everything will be fine. Meanwhile Ignacio, who was arrested by Immigration a few days ago but was let go, comes down and Betty gives him his pills. He has a caseworker coming to work with him next month. Hilda gets in a fight with their neighbor Gina after she runs over her Christmas tree while it’s sitting in the street.
Meanwhile, in Wilhelmina’s office, Marc, in the wake of him now knowing the truth of his boss’ intentions, is bringing Wilhelmina her breakfast and asking if Nico is coming home. He lithely snatches her whole wheat bagel causing her to almost bite his head off before he reminds her that they’re ‘sharing things’ now that he knows her little secret. Over at an office meeting in the conference room, Daniel announces that Betty has been offered a job and she will be accepting resumes for her position. The news brings a round of applause for Miss Suarez. Amanda and Marc wonder if they need to invite her to her own leaving party. Betty is surprised he’s announced this, but he says that her going to work with Sofia is what’s best for her. Amanda is already confident that she’s the best one to take the job. Daniel then takes Betty into his office to tell her that Sofia wants him to have an affair while she’s away. He’s through with being a bachelor and places half a dozen rings across his desk to try to pick out which will be perfect. After leaving Daniel’s office, Betty goes to her desk and opens a gift waiting for her, which turns out to be a notebook. She assumes this is from Daniel and gives him the thumbs up but he doesn’t know what she’s doing, since it didn’t come from him. She walks down the hall to Amanda who tells her flatly that she is the right person to replace her and she’ll prove it: She’ll help Betty plan the Christmas party. Betty reluctantly accepts the offer. A bundle of fake snow arrives and Betty walks it into Henry, spilling it all over both of them. He tries to pull some out of her hair but feel bashful. He then makes a series of unintentional double entendres while Betty tries to hide her excitement when he tells her that he will be ‘on top of her’ for the next few days overseeing the party budget.
Meanwhile, half a dozen lingerie models arrive to pose the new collection for Daniel. They include the first supermodel he was ever with, Aerin. Betty leaves to try to sort through resumes before she rushes in again to stop Daniel from easy temptation and announces that the photographer is ready for the models. Across town later that day, Betty and Walter are at the Christmas party for the store where he works. They have their photo taken with Walter’s boss and his wife. The wife of Walter’s boss tells her that she used to work in Manhattan too, but they’re Queens’ girls and this is where they belong. Betty stares at Walter and his boss with a less than enthusiastic feeling. Betty asks the woman when she knew that her husband was the one. She just knew; when did Betty know Walter was? She’s not sure yet. Upset that Marc wants in on her secret, Wilhelmina gets a call from her mysterious friend who’s concerned about having Marc silenced. Wilhelmina states that he will be permanently silenced very soon. She adjusts the Christmas tree ornaments and walks out revealing Marc hiding behind the tree. He’s terrified and takes a breath of his inhaler. In another part of the MODE building, it’s late in the office and Amanda is still there, rummaging through Daniel’s desk and trying on the rings he bought for Sofia. Her feelings for Daniel aren’t exactly as simple as she wishes they were. One ring gets stuck on her finger. Also later on in another location at the Meade Building, Bradford is being visited by Mr. Greene. He’s managed to find proof that Fey Sommers is really dead after visiting the coroner at the cemetery, which leads to new questions over who the mystery woman really is, now that a relative has claimed Fey’s remains.
The following morning, a worried Marc brings Wilhelmina her whole wheat. She asks him for his home address; she’s sending a special delivery his way. He panics and takes another hit off his inhaler. Amanda updates Betty on all the elaborate party preparations that she’s done. Betty says she appreciates the help, but it doesn’t erase her history with Daniel; she’s not right for the job. Betty goes to her desk when Henry appears with ornaments. She tries to ignore him, but he tells her that he never saw snow until he moved to New York and she’s so charmed that she can’t stop staring at him. They begin to chat and she starts to fantasize about him before freezing up and telling him she has to get back to work. Betty is pushing ornaments into Amanda’s arms when she sees one of Daniel’s rings on her fingers. Betty chases her around the office before they try to get it off together. Betty spits on an appalled Amanda’s finger and starts to pull while she tells her that she doesn’t feel anything for Daniel anymore. Betty falls over pulling and Amanda walks off. Marc arrives at the party. At first, he’s stuck in an elevator with a man who seems to be a hitman. He rushes past him and asks Amanda if she has a gun. Amanda says that no one would sell guns to anyone at the party. Marc rushes off to hide from the wrath of Wilhelmina and Amanda goes to stand by Betty to pester her about the job. Betty thinks that Daniel needs someone who can look after him. Amanda says that she’ll run interference between Daniel and the models just to prove that she can fill Betty’s shoes. After glancing at Betty’s clogs, she takes a swig and stomps off. Betty is left alone while Henry stands across the room flirting with her. Christina is drunk on Santa’s lap and slurs out a wish list of presents for her co-workers, “A heart for Wilhelmina, courage for Marc and brains for Amanda.” Marc runs by while Betty moves around the room and under desks while trying to hide from Henry. She bangs her head and her painful yelp brings her to Henry’s attention. He helps her up with a string of condoms in her hand but he was only there for a corkscrew. Christina walks by them dragging Santa into the bathroom as an appalled Marc runs out. Wilhelmina and the ‘hitman’ spot him and call him into her office. They take Marc to the parking garage and, just when he thinks they’re going to kill him, they flip on a light to reveal a Hummer, delivered to him by the ‘hitman’, who happens to be an auto dealer. He’s relieved to see that they’re just trying to buy his silence.
Daniel goes into his office followed by Erin, who starts making out with him. Amanda promptly interrupts and reminds him that he’s supposed to be engaged. Daniel agrees, telling Erin that he’s in love with someone else. When Erin thinks it’s Amanda, she suggests a threesome (and possibly a ménage à trois), but Daniel explains that’s not what he meant. Erin then leaves. Afterwards, Betty tells Daniel that the only person she’s seen that she could leave to look after him is Amanda. If he’s serious about her going, this is goodbye. He gives her a silver business card holder and tells her that he’s proud of her; she’s destined for bigger things. She hugs him and tries not to cry. Before she leaves, she asks him if the other gifts she’s been receiving were from him. They weren’t. Daniel calls Sofia to tell her that he loves her and his heart doesn’t race for anyone else. Betty walks out to her desk and looks at Henry. They exchange waves before someone walks by and kisses him but he pushes her away. Betty is crushed at the sight and rushes away to the elevator while he runs after her. The ring falls off Amanda’s finger. Back in Queens, Hilda is going through Justin’s gift list when they look out the window and see Gina obscenely defaming their Christmas lawn ornaments. By evening, she returns with a decapitated glowing reindeer and the lights go out. Hilda walks out to find Gina collapsed on the porch. They’ve been competing since they were teenagers and Gina always loses. After Gina admits that her parents are away and she is spending Christmas alone, Hilda takes pity and invites her in for eggnog and brandy. It looks like they buried the hatchet for now.  Later on at MODE, Amanda is trying to clear up after the party. Daniel tells her that Betty thinks she should be his new assistant, but can she do it? They promise to be professionals. Meanwhile, Ted the Texan walks in on Wilhelmina as she’s about to leave and her heart starts to race. Betty gets home and wonders if she’s doing what’s best with her life. She shows Hilda the photo of her with Walter. Hilda says that she should appreciate Walter more. Within moments, Walter arrives with her last present; it was him who was using Daniel to sneak her presents at work. Henry calls but Hilda tells him that Betty is busy and throws away the message that he leaves with her. Walter tells Betty that he’s trying to understand her life in Manhattan, but she feels cold and it becomes clear to her that she doesn’t love him.
Image result for ugly betty fake plastic snowA Great first Christmas for Betty and the gang, Daniel trying to prove that he is in love Sofia was a great story and Amanda looking out for him  was a nice touch. The Henry and Betty scenario was sweet too.

GIVING UP THE GHOST

GUEST CAST
Eliza Dushku (Tru Calling)
Ileana Douglas (Ghost World)
Max Greenfield (New Girl)
Ron Canada (Wedding Crashers)
The story begins at the Suarez home, where Betty is sitting down at 2AM eating empanadas. As she goes to get the milk from the refrigerator, she is spooked by seeing the head of Bradford Meade inside. After she closes the door, Bradford is standing behind her and tells her that he is her subconscious and that he asks her why she turned down Daniel’s offer to return to work. Betty tells him that she doesn’t think she’s ready to return. He then disappears after he tells her to think about what Bradford told her before he died. The following day at the burial of Bradford at the cemetery, Claire is allowed to attend but arrives wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and is in shackles. Amanda ponders about whether she would be next in line to take over at the company, but Sheila, who arrived late and hears this exchange, tells her that two years as a receptionist doesn’t qualify. As Betty is delivering a eulogy, Wilhehima and Marc show up, hoping to make her last remarks. After Wilhelmina comments about Claire’s uniform, Claire trips Wilhelmina, causing her to fall into Bradford’s empty grave. Wilhelmina is fired by unanimous decision of Claire, Daniel, and Alexis.
Fumed by her termination from the company, Wilhelmina returns to her office at MODE to remove her belongings but before she goes, she deploys a computer virus called “Medusa X”, featuring a motif similar to the Versace logo, but with Wilhelmina’s head replacing Medusa, that removes all files pertaining to the upcoming issue. When Henry notices the virus in his office, he calls Betty, who was helping the family plan their annual Christmas tree decorations at home, to inform her about what happened. As she leaves, she gives directions to Hilda, Justin and Ignacio on how it’s normally decorated, although Hilda and Justin think that they should make changes to the tradition. Daniel and Betty lead the effort to resurrect the issue with an all nighter work session. Betty says she is back just for the night. But before they can start on the emergency issue, Wilhelmina and Marc interrupt this work session to announce their new magazine: SLATER and recruit many MODE staff. Wilhelmina also made her feelings known about Daniel and Alexis, prompting Alexis and Betty to try to contain their desire to knock her out. As Wilhelmina leaves, Marc tempted Amanda to defect, but she turns him down, thus ending their partnership. Among the all-night chaos, Daniel placed Sheila in charge and in turn finds replacements to do new articles, with Henry being tasked with writing a food column and Amanda volunteering to write the “Hot or Not” section. Unfortunately Sheila is not happy about having Amanda on the team, even as she sees the receptionist eating at her desk and not giving her an article. When Amanda sees a pizza delivery guy’s uniform, she finally comes up with one, but as she shows off her design, Sheila walks up to her and tells her that she actually knew, worked and “made out” with Fey Sommers, and that Amanda is “No Fey Sommers,” and scraps Amanda’s article. At the love dungeon, a distressed Amanda tells Christina that she hopes that when she finds her father, maybe she’ll know what type of talent that she might actually have.
Meanwhile at the Suarez home, the family decoration plans start to go awry when Hilda trips on a string of Christmas tree lights knocking the tree over and starting a small fire. As Betty is scrambling to help Daniel at work, she calls her Hilda about its progress until she figured out what has happened after hearing Justin and Ignacio in the background. Alexis decided to take upon the task of getting the printers to extend the hours, but as she goes to the printer’s office in an effort to charm him, she discovers that he has left the business to a dwarf-like successor, Harvey Milfree. After the two bicker and bluff all night, they end up discussing how both are ‘different’ and how their fathers treated them. Once the conversation is over, Harvey agrees to keep the presses open, much to the delight of Alexis.
The deleted issue also erased the cover spread featuring Cameron Ashlock, a famous actress and singer who has been making a lot of headlines. When Daniel decides that he is going to break her out of rehab, Betty tags along. At the centre where Cameron is staying, the two find her among candles and chanting and after much persuasion, they succeed in convincing her to do a reshoot. Unfortunately, that doesn’t go well as planned as Cameron goes ballistic on the set after Daniel told Betty the only way to do it is by giving her alcohol, which Betty thought was a bad idea. As Cameron is escorted off the shoot, Betty learned that Daniel never gave Cameron a drink, which is how she lost control in the first place. Daniel told Betty he couldn’t do it. Unable to reshoot the cover, Daniel opts for a solid black cover in tribute of the late Bradford Meade with an “In Remembrance of Bradford Meade” theme. Betty and the staff are impressed with this cover as a way to honour the late publisher. Betty then tells Daniel that she will return to MODE permanently, and as Daniel walks away, she sees the spirit of Bradford for one last time by sending him to his final “resting place.” Later, at Wilhelmina’s apartment, she tells the defected MODE staff that she will have the new magazine up and running soon. After they leave, Wilhelmina meets with her father, Senator Slater, to ask for a loan to get her new magazine established. He refuses, saying that the daughter he once knew and loved as Wanda has changed into someone else. After he leaves, Wilhelmina and Marc ponder other options on how to get the financial backing. Finally, knowing that Christmas is a time for family, Betty buys a pink artificial tree to replace the burned up one. As they finally decorate the new tree Ignacio places the angel on top as a remembrance of his late wife.
A great episode and a great way to bring back Alan Dale’s character despite being killed off in the previous episode. It’s also good to see Betty trying to stay the person she has always been and worrying about the woman she may become if she stays at mode. Having Betty being able to help save the magazine shows how much she has grown. We also get to see Wilhelmina go all super villain which is just scary and brilliant at the same time.

BE-SHURE

GUEST CAST
Daniel Eric Gold (War of The Worlds)
Grant Bowler (Lost)
David Rasche (Burn After Reading)
Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid)
The story begins with the family getting ready for breakfast with Ignacio making potato latkes. Ignacio announces that he has invited his new girlfriend, Jean, over for a multi-culti Christmas–Hanukkah dinner. As Betty leaves, Bobby stops by, which upsets Hilda, even though Bobby was there to pick up Justin, while Ignacio holds up a Cabbage Patch Doll to show Bobby, who believes took a display of the baby Jesus 14 years earlier, which Bobby denied. After she leaves, Betty starts to feel queasy as does Hilda later on while she and Archie were visiting Macy’s to drop a letter to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. On Fashion TV, Suzuki reports on Wilhelmina in jumpsuits and Connor in jail. Claire and Daniel discuss hiring a new creative director despite the disagreements over Calvin running the company and Daniel being blamed for hiring Connor, while Marc is suffering from “Stockholm Syndrome”, due to Wilhelmina no longer with the company. Cal later stops by to introduce Daniel their new creative director, a clueless Hollywood mogul named Denise Ludwig, whom Daniel is not happy about and when he tries to reason with Cal as to why he was not consulted, Cal reminded him about who was running the company and it wasn’t Daniel.
919NuAZvl-L._SL1500_As Daniel prays that Connor rots in prison, it looks like Connor and Wilhelmina are getting hot and heavy behind bars, as Wilhelmina have been secretly been making surprise visits daily for the past two weeks, as they hope that as soon as they get the money back Wilhelmina will be back at Mode. When Wilhelmina returns to reclaim her job, Daniel tells her that it was filled. Wilhelmina then leaves, but prior to her visit, Marc suggests to Daniel, who wanted to get even with Cal by recovering the money, by enlisting Wilhelmina in an effort to get the money back. Hours later back at prison, Wilhelmina and Connor are interrupted by a phone call from Daniel. Connor goes to answer Daniel on the other end but Connor refuses to spill the beans and blames him for taking Molly and making Wilhelmina choose between him and the company, saying that he knows where the money is. However this was all planned, as Wilhelmina and Connor set up a scheme in an effort to get the Hartleys out of the company. This also sets up a scheme for Daniel to get the company back in family control, as Marc suggests to Daniel that Wilhelmina might be useful in retrieving the money from Connor. As they went to Wilhelmina’s place, the two agree to get the money back, on the condition that Wilhelmina gets a 50% stake in Meade Publications and non-veto power and that Daniel does not consult Claire. The two agree. In between the meelee, Marc begins to reminisce about Wilhelmina with Amanda, as they looked at Wilhelmina’s empty office and sees her empty chair, which he used to inject Botox into his former boss. Hours later, a deliveryman arrives to give Marc the Botox chair as a gift. Amanda later reaches Claire to tell her that a plane is ready for her flight to Rapid City, South Dakota to see her son Tyler. In Rapid City, Claire arrives at a bar and sees a bartender, who happens to be Tyler, after she asks him for a beer as a way to get to know more about him. As Tyler talks about his life, Claire listens to him, seeing that he has done well for himself and realizes that he has turned out pretty well. Claire then thanks Tyler for having a great conversation and leaves him a 2,000-dollar tip. As Claire leaves, she informs Amanda and tells her that she doesn’t want Tyler to know anything about her. However, as Tyler went to pick up his tip, he is stunned by the large cash that was left for him and sees an envelope that has Claire’s name and address on it.
As they avoid Amanda, who seem to have jumped on the jumpsuit trend thanks to Wili, Betty and Matt talk about the get-together at the Suarezes, then comment on Betty’s glow as she visualizes a future with Matt as Mrs. Suarez-Hartley. During the entire day, Betty still feels queasy and as she arrives to the bus stop, a waiting passenger notices Betty and gives her a seat because he thought that Betty looked like she was expecting and as the flashbacks come into the picture, her vision of her future changed completely as she sees a mirror image of herself as a pregnant woman. At the drug store, Betty asks for the Be-Shure pregnancy test kit from a pharmacist named Jean, without mentioning the name. Unfortunately, Hilda also shows up asking Jean for the same kit, but the siblings don’t see each other even though the two do see Ignacio shopping and try their best to avoid him like the plague. Back at home Betty and Hilda arrive to help Ignacio, while at the same time they separately head to the bathroom to pee so they can see if they are expecting. During the ensuing chaos, both try to keep each other and Ignacio from finding out as they fight for bathroom time. When Ignacio heads upstairs to ask for a band-aid, the sisters panicked as they were hiding something, and after he left the two separately discover a positive on their sticks thanks to a mix-up with their kits and both believed that they might be pregnant. But just as the two try to keep quiet about their double pregnancy, Ignacio welcomes a surprise guest – his Jewish girlfriend Jean, the pharmacist from the drugstore that gave the women the pregnancy test, but doesn’t recognize either of them. And to make matter worse, Archie and Matt also arrives, as does Bobby, who returns the baby Jesus and admits to Ignacio that he stole it.During the entire evening as Jean talked about her Jewish family members and being welcomed into a Christian family setting, the sisters try to keep their cool about the results and as they went back to the bathroom they saw the two sticks, but one turned up positive and the other negative. Betty believes that Hilda might be the one who is carrying but the two are not so sure and as Matt walks in on the two he sees Betty with the stick and is led to believe that Betty is the one with child. Betty tells Matt that she is not ready but Matt stuns Betty by saying he is ready. That’s when the two decide to retest to be sure, so Matt heads to the store. Later that evening, everyone gathers to see the lighting of the Nativity on the lawn. Ignacio invites everyone, including Bobby, back in the house, and when Jean prepares to light the menorah the chaos continued until a box of Be-Shure fell onto the floor, as does Jean’s menorah. Everyone sees this as Betty picks it up and Matt follows her to the bathroom.
In the bathroom, Betty and Matt wait for a few minutes, then a negative sign appears, as Betty breathes a sigh of relief that she is not the one who is pregnant, even though Matt was somewhat disappointed. Ignacio was also relieved as well regardless of the outcome and they returned downstairs to finish the celebration. Hours later after the celebration finished, a devastated Hilda tells Betty that she is afraid to tell Archie about the pregnancy and that he isn’t the father, now that she knows that Bobby is. Betty thinks its time for Hilda to come clean to Archie, when Archie comes by and see Hilda. However, its Archie who decided that it was better to end the relationship, but because he felt that there was someone out there who deserves Hilda and he wasn’t the one for her. After he leaves, Hilda sees Bobby, who wanted to tell her that he wouldn’t come by the place anymore, but Hilda tells him he can come over anytime. She didn’t tell Bobby about him becoming a father yet. As the evening finished, Ignacio was pleased that Jean liked the get-together and was looking forward to a having an Easter-Passover dinner down the road, while outside Betty and Matt talked about visualizing their future together if they ever decide to ever have a family, then they kiss.
Be-Shure sets up a lot of stories for the remainder of the series, as season 4 became the final season. This Christmas episode had many highlights especially the pregnancy story, keeping the audience guessing just which of the sisters is pregnant.

The Celebration Reverberation

The Celebration Reverberation

While Howard, Leonard and Sheldon are looking through the comic book rack, Sheldon inquires whether Stuart has the new Aquaman comic and whether he can smoke some meat in his back room. He is planning a historically accurate western meal for Amy’s birthday since she love “Little House on the Prairie”. Leonard thinks that it’s weird that he is suddenly getting into Aquaman. Sheldon want to start reading the aquatic superhero before he suddenly becomes cool. Leonard asks about Halley’s birthday and Howard isn’t planning anything since Bernadette is on bed rest and he is lazy. Raj enters the shop, greets the guys and barely acknowledges Howard. Howard calls Raj a baby and Raj reacts telling him to grow up. Stuart pleads with them to stop fighting until he learns that Raj is letting him use his extra ticket to the new Star Wars movie. Stuart changes his opinion to that Howard and Raj had a good run together. The Big Bang Theory 11x11 – The Celebration Reverberation CAPA - CopiaIn the Caltech cafeteria, Raj asks Sheldon and Leonard whether they want to see “The Last Jedi” again that night. Sheldon does so he can catch the parts he missed while he was blinking. A exhausted Howard shows up announcing that Halley will have a birthday party because anyone who is not a heartless monster and Bernadette would want one. He gives Leonard and Sheldon invitations and doesn’t invite Raj. Sheldon is planning to come, but doesn’t like those sugary flowers on birthday cakes. Howard doesn’t invite Raj and doesn’t think that it means a thing that he is Halley’s godfather. Raj quickly leaves. Penny enters the Hofstadter apartment reading a letter, the Christmas letter from Leonard’s brother telling about their great life making Leonard feel bad. Sheldon enters carrying a butter churn for his dinner for Amy and wants to store it in 4A. Penny quips that she already got Amy one of those things. He is making hardtack, boiled salt pork and a gob of chew-able tree sap. And afterwards they will have their annual birthday coitus. Penny wonders if their sex will be historically accurate. Leonard assumes that like frontier life, it will be exhausting and short. Sheldon calls Leonard exhausting and short and then leaves.111594_WB_0517bAmy returns home and finds all the lights out. Sheldon is using candles and tells Amy that he doesn’t know what electricity is since he is a farm boy from a little house on the prairie. Amy screams in excitement. She thinks that everything is perfect. Though tomorrow is her birthday, tonight she get’s her authentic frontier dinner from scratch. Amy hugs Sheldon calling it amazing. Amy sits down because she is starving. Sheldon even churned his own butter, though there is very little of it and it took him nine hours to make. Amy is so excited; she doesn’t think she can wait until midnight to have sex with him. Sheldon replies that she will be glad to have waited because everyone knows that the best foreplay is an adherence to a strict schedule.
K4u28ISTdzEPenny returns from work and finds Leonard wanting to make their Christmas letter. He wants to make a list of the cool things they did that year. Penny starts that their jobs are going great though Leonard lost their project to the Air Force and Penny hates her job. “Still employed” starts the list. Then they had their second anniversary, which they forgot to celebrate. “Still married,” was then added. They also almost went to the beach and almost went to the mountains. Howard shows up at Raj’s new place to invite Raj and then asks him to plan the party. Stuart was having a colonoscopy at the free clinic since an appointment opened up. Raj is insulted that Howard would only apologize because he needed something. Raj will do it, but only for Halley because she is his goddaughter. Amy finishes her meal and declines any more. There is plenty of pork fat left over though they could turn it into soap. Amy thinks that that might taste better. Amy moves over to the couch as Sheldon wants to go to stage 2, the pitching of woo. He has some bawdy nineteenth century limericks which Amy interrupts asking if it was getting hot in the room. She wonders if there was something wrong with the food since her stomach felt weird. Sheldon is starting to feel bad too and wonders if it is sexual arousal. He runs off to the bathroom to get sick as Amy heads for the kitchen sink.73555ec5baf88b87369Howard comes out onto the porch and finds Raj working on an almost completed party. He can believe what Raj did overnight. Raj reminds him that he did it for Halley. Howard adds that he is sure that she appreciates it of she knew what was going on and who he was. In their bedroom, a still sick Sheldon wishes an also sick Amy a happy birthday. Neither had slept the previous night. Sheldon asks if she wanted to make love. Amy only wants to do it if he doesn’t touch her. Sheldon says, “Fine”, pauses a moment and then asks if she wants to do it again. Penny comes out in the morning and finds Leonard working on their Christmas letter list. He had added “Kept fern alive” and “Assembled “IKEA furniture.” Penny doubted that brown plant was still alive. And she thinks that their lives are great, so why is it bothering Leonard? He thinks that they are stuck in their lives. They are married two years and should move ahead to buying a house or having a kid. Penny is happy with staying thin and putting money in the bank. So what do they want to do next? How about a big trip? Instead they decide to go to Catalina Island. Sheldon then runs in to use the bathroom since Amy is already in theirs.111594_WB_0034bAt the party, Howard learns that Bernadette’s sister’s kids are sick and aren’t coming. Bernadette calls down and asks how the party is coming. Great? Raj wonders where all the “Daddy and Me” kids were. Back in the sick room, Sheldon just remembers that he left all the food out. Amy says sarcastically wondering of it was going to go good. Amy lists all her symptoms and Sheldon comments that he is feeling better too. Sitting alone at a table, Howard calls the party a disaster. Raj complains that he called in a lot of favors to get a Wonder Woman bouncy house. Then he admits that it is a Chinese knock-off called Happy Strong Swimsuit Lady. Raj then climbs into the bouncy house just to have it used to celebrate Halley’s birthday. Howard joins him and starts to argue with him. Howard is stressed and Raj worked hard. Raj pushes Howard down who jumps up and pushes Raj. Howard is angry about Raj walking out on their friendship, Raj complains about Howard making fun of him all these years. As they get in a shoving match, they find it fun and make up in the process. Later the gang is at the party while Sheldon and Amy arrived fully recovered. Bernadette calls them all upstairs because Halley is now awake. Sheldon and Amy stay. Sheldon mentions that it is still Amy’s birthday and that the bouncy house is empty. He suggests using it and then finding an unused bedroom upstairs to have their annual love making celebration. Amy agrees as they head for the bouncy house.111594_WB_0312b_FULLAnother great bunch of  Xmas episode. The highlight being the second one where Sheldong trys to give Amy a perfect Little House on the prairie birtthday present and ending up giving them both food posioning. Great epsisodes to watch over the xmas season.

THE BATH ITEM GIFT HYPOTHESIS

GUEST CAST
Michael Trucco (Wishmaster 4)
At the university, Sheldon is educating the guys that Superman cleans his uniform by flying into the sun. Howard questions what happens if he gets something Kryptonian on it. Sheldon is pretty sure that all Kryptonian condiments were destroyed when Krypton exploded. Leonard points out that Superman’s sweat is also Kryptonian, and Howard laments over what to do about Kryptonian pit stains. Sheldon counters that Superman doesn’t sweat on Earth, and could always wash his clothes while visiting the shrunken Kryptonian city of Kandor, where he has no superpowers and his clothing wouldn’t either.
A scientist, David Underhill walks in. Not only is he a winner of the MacArthur Genius Grant (it’s a real thing), but even according to Sheldon, his observation of high energy positrons has provided the first conclusive evidence of the existence of dark matter. Everyone but Leonard seems to respect him. Sheldon points out that Underhill’s discovery has essentially made Leonard’s line of research useless. Leonard points out that Underhill was just at the right place at the right time. Underhill approaches Leonard and asks if he has time to work with him. Leonard is thrilled and gives him all his phone numbers, including his parent’s number in New Jersey. Leonard arrives at the apartment, missing Wii Bowling Night. Dave is very cool, as he is a Black Diamond (advanced) skier, collects vintage motorcycles, and does a spot-on impression of Stephen Hawking having phone sex. Dave and Leonard are getting along very well and are going to the gym the morning. Penny asks if the guys are putting up a Christmas tree to which Sheldon explains. “We do not celebrate the ancient pagan ritual of Saturnalia. Sheldon explains, “In the pre-Christian era, as the winter solstice approached and the plants died, pagans brought evergreen boughs into their homes as an act of sympathetic magic to guard the plants and preserve their essences until spring. This custom was later appropriated by northern Europeans and eventually becomes the so-called Christmas tree.” Howard quips “And that, Charlie Brown, is what boredom is all about.”
Penny says that she’ll put their presents under her tree. Sheldon is upset, stating that Penny is not giving him a present, rather an obligation. He must give her something of equal value based upon on her present and her perceived level of friendship. Sheldon ponders if obligations such as this are a contributing factor to the increased suicide rate during the holidays. Raj and Howard end up taking him to the mall. Leonard and David are heading up the stairs helping Leonard after the motorcycle fell over on his leg. They run into Penny who is surprised that David is a physicist and they became quickly smitten with each other. Penny claims to be a geek who would love to see his lab. David proposes to take her out to dinner and up the coast his bike. Leonard is left on his own to figure out what just happened. Sheldon’s shopping does not go well in a bath & body shop which is a “cacophonous assault of eucalyptus, bayberry, cinnamon, and vanilla.” To be fair, though, it is less scary than the Build-a-Bear shop next door. Howard picks a gift basket to purchase, but Sheldon stops him. He has no knowledge of what size gift basket to get. He experiments by “giving” the gift basket to the sales clerk. Since she acts just like Penny, Howard claims that they’ll take it.
Leonard gets a little shock in the university’s cafeteria finding Penny with David and having taken his offer of looking around the labs even though he had also offered to show Penny around. David is totally into Penny, saying she has an agile mind (among other things) and he has forgotten about working with Leonard. He is more interesting in doing some research with Penny about the effects of tequila shots on a gorgeous 22-year-old woman.  Back at the apartment, Leonard is upset and lying on the couch when Raj and Howard enter carrying several huge gift baskets. Sheldon’s plan is to open Penny’s gift first, then excuse himself with some “gastric trouble,” and get the appropriately-priced basket, returning the others later. Howard wonders if Leonard has already gotten Penny the perfect gift; a new boyfriend. Leonard goes over to Penny’s finding her drinking rum and eggnog minus the eggnog. He demands an answer to why Penny is suddenly dating someone smarter than himself when she thought he was too smart for her, the very thing that broke them up at the beginning of the season. Penny bursts into tears wondering why he was yelling at her. Leonard immediately retreats and tries to find out what’s wrong. She says that David is an idiot because he should have taken the nude photos of his wife off his cell phone before taking nude photos of his girlfriend. Leonard asked about the nude pictures to which Penny responded, “THAT’S what you got from that? The guy is married!” Penny also asks that if he is ‘perfectly happy’ with the way things are, then why is he jealous. Leonard apologizes and asks her to give him this one since it is Christmas. They end up cuddling. She relents and wishes him a Merry Christmas. Then Leonard brings up that his leg is still in pain.
Later Penny brings over her Christmas presents. Sheldon gets a napkin, which when turned over was signed by Leonard Nimoy. “To Sheldon, Live Long and Prosper.” First he is speechless and then Penny apologizes that it is dirty because he wiped his mouth on it. Completely overwhelmed and emotional, Sheldon then exclaims that he now has the DNA of Leonard Nimoy and can grow a clone of his own before quickly running off to his room. Leonard gives Penny a set of children’s science experiments because she told David she was so into science. Leonard gets some motorcycle lessons to prevent any future accidents. Sheldon returns to the room with all of the gift baskets he bought and gives them to Penny, much to her surprise. However, thinking that it still doesn’t equal the value of his gift, Sheldon gives Penny something he rarely gives anyone… a hug. Leonard considers this day is a Saturnalia miracle (i.e. Sheldon version of a Christmas miracle.).
Such a great Christmas episode and is one I watch every Christmas, the ending is the best part and so touching.

THE MATERNAL CONGRUENCE

GUEST CAST
Christine Baranski (Into The Woods)
The episode begins with Penny and Leonard decorating Leonard’s Christmas tree. After being asked to contribute, Sheldon gives them a bust of Sir Issac Newton to hang on the tree partially since he was born on Christmas day and Jesus was not. A visit from Leonard’s mother, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter (Christine Baranski), delights Sheldon and horrifies Leonard. Penny is upset because Leonard didn’t mention his mother’s visit to her, but that is nothing compared to when Leonard learns that Sheldon knows more about his own mother than Leonard does. Leonard learns about his parents’ pending divorce, his mother’s surgery, and his dog Mitzy’s death all after Sheldon has known. Beverly questions
Howard and Raj about their “ersatz homosexual relationship” (alluding to her last visit in “The Maternal Capacitance”) and Howard tries to tell Leonard’s mother that he has a girlfriend, but she doesn’t seem to believe him. He asks Leonard to tell his mother, but Leonard responds, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”, but Leonard tells her Howard has a girlfriend after Howard makes him since Leonard knows and Howard scoffed at Leonard not knowing what’s Howard’s talking about. Penny and Beverly go out drinking at the Cheesecake Factory bar and get terribly drunk. Penny tells her about her relationship with Leonard and Beverly tells her about her interest in the busboy. When they get back to the apartment, a drunk Beverly scolds Leonard for not telling her that he is in a relationship with Penny. Leonard then confronts her about not telling him about her surgery, her divorce and his dog’s death and he wants a closer mother and son relationship, so Beverly hugs him. After Leonard is gone, Beverly kisses Sheldon much to Penny’s horror. Afterwards, she says that she would rather have the busboy.
The next day, Penny and Beverly are hung-overand Leonard and Sheldon are taking Beverly to the airport. Beverly asks Leonard to take care of Penny and hopes Sheldon will forgive her for her actions the previous night; however, they all decide to keep it a secret from Leonard.
The second Christmas episode is brilliant seeing Penny interact with Leonards Mother was hilarious.

THE SANTA SIMULATION

GUEST CAST
Dakin Matthews (Lincoln)
Leonard is assembling a cardboardfireplace decoration for his apartment. He is amazed that he assembled an entire fireplace with his own bare hands hands, even though he did get a papercutpaper cut. Leonard tells Penny that the guys are playing Dungeons and Dragons together because they haven’t in a long time. Penny asks him if he’d rather play a fantasy board game on a Saturday night rather than be with his girlfriend who let him have sex with her. Amy tells Sheldon that she always wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons. Sheldon replies that she isn’t invited because men at times have to get away from civility and break out into their primal selves.
Bernadette tells Howard that she worked late so that they could be together on Saturday night. Howard tells her that if he doesn’t come, then the guys will blame the failure of their night on her. Raj and Stuart had planned to have dinner and see the ChristmasChristmas lights in Griffith ParkGriffith Park, but are even more excited about joining in the game.Their Dungeons and Dragons quest starts with a Christmas gift given to Sheldon who, as usual, is complaining about Christmas, like the overuse of “t’is” and “t’was”. He pulls out a scrollscroll from the Christmas stocking that describes their quest that starts in a village of massacred elves. They must rescue their leader Santa Clausfrom a packdungeon of ogreogres. Leonard explains that a holiday-themed quest would be a good idea. Sheldon replies that it was like a sandwich of grape jelly and petroleum jellypetroleum jelly. In-game, Howard finds a secret door, tries to set up an invasion strategy, however; Raj rushes in. He hits a tripwaretrip wire that triggers a cannoncannon, leading to his death and disqualification.
Penny pokes her head into the room and tells the guys that she thought that they should see what they are missing out on. Acting like runway modelfashion models, Bernadette shows off a tight short red dress from Forever 21″Forever 21″ and Amy a flowered dress from “Forever 63”, actually showing a lot of ankle, and new shoes. Penny is wearing a very short little black dress that got her out of two speeding ticketsspeeding tickets and jury dutyjury duty. Raj says he wants to go but first the girls tell him that he can’t come because its girls’ night but, after the girls leave, Penny pokes her head back in and invites him. At the nightclubbar, Bernadette wants to find a girl for Raj but needs to know whether he should find a girl to get laidhook-up or a quality relationship. Amy announces that they should get him laid. The girls tell him that they could find someone and introduce him. Raj doesn’t want the girl to know that he has money, but she has to be a nine or ten. Or eight if she brings another eight to the hot tub. According to Bernadette, he’ll have any girl that will have him and Raj agrees.
Back at the game, the boys’ characters find a large chest. Howard wants to bury his head (i.e. boobs) in it even though he is married. The door locks behind them, and glowing words appear on the chest as the walls start to close in. The answer of the clues has Sheldon singing “Good King WenceslasGood King Wenceslas” to stop the walls from closing in. Sheldon knows the song from when his grandparents would sing carols at Christmas time. They tried to resume the game, but Sheldon insists on singing the remaining verses. At the nightclub, Raj finds a hot girl at the bar, they talked for a while, and he leaves her to return to the girls. He finds that she gave him a phony email email address. Raj complains that is really his fault since he falls for girls that are out of his league. He did when he fell for his friends’ hot girlfriends, Penny and Bernadette. Amy then concludes at some point he’ll fall her. Raj says a definite “no” but Penny and Bernadette urgently try to get Raj to change his comment about Amy, but he keeps saying “no”, and that he wouldn’t fall for her. Back at the apartment, Sheldon finishes the last verse of “Good King Wenceslas”. Next, they find a pool of melted snowmansnowmen that Sheldon wants every detail about. Afterwards he picks up a cup of eggnogeggnog. Leonard says he’s glad Sheldon is finally in the holiday spirit, but Sheldon claims that he is not and that he drinks eggnog all year-round. Leonard wishes Sheldon would get in the spirit since he had enough crappy Christmases when he was a kid. Instead of leaving Santa milk and cookies, Leonard’s family left research paperresearch papers for Santa, and then in the morning they were graded. Sheldon thinks they must have been great Christmases.
At the nightclub, Raj apologizes to Amy if he upset her. Amy says her first kiss was at 22, but only before she returned some guy’s medicine to him. Raj claims that during a game of spin the bottle, the girl the bottle landed on said if he came close to her she would break the bottle and cut him. Amy says she fell asleep at a fraternity party in collegecollege and woke up with more clothes on. Raj says that he would sit on one hand, make it numb, and then hold hands and feel like it was another person. Amy says she does the same thing, but hers sometimes would cops a feelcup her breast. Amy tells Raj that she knows what it’s like to be alone and Raj agrees as they seem to connect. But Raj reminds her that she has Sheldon now. Then Amy tells him that he’ll eventually find somebody too. Raj says that he hopes that she is as half as a lovely person as Amy. Amy then says that Raj “wants me; now I’m good”. She says that they can leave now, obviously getting back at Raj who then tells Penny on the way out that now he may fall for Amy. Penny looks strange at him. During the next game stunt, Sheldon puts numbers on the whiteboard and the three players start playing “Jingle BellsJingle Bells” with bells. This act lowers the drawbridgedrawbridge and they find the bloody and beaten Santa in the dungeon. Sheldon casts a spell of paralysis on Howard and Stuart, goes in and yells at Santa. Sheldon confesses that when, he was five, he asked Santa to bring back his Pop-Pop, Meemaw’s husband, who had just died and was his only relative that urged him to follow his dream into science. Instead Santa brought him a set of Lincoln LogsLinkin Logs. Sheldon kicks Santa and leaves him to the ogres. The others are completely shocked as they now know that Sheldon doesn’t like celebrating Christmas as he was struggling to recover from such a traumatic family tragedy at the time. Leonard just comments that he gave up sex with Penny for this unhappy ending.  That night, Sheldon comes into the living room and finds Santa Claus leaving him presentpresents and he apologizes for not bringing back his Pop-Pop because he says that his magicpower is limited. He also has something special for Sheldon, who seems excited, thinking his presents are trains. But because Sheldon left him for dead in the game, Santa fires a cannon at Sheldon for his revenge. Sheldon quickly wakes up from his dreamsnightmare, coming to the senses that he shouldn’t blame Santa for his Pop Pop not coming back to life.
Another great xmas episode, seeing Sheldon seek revenge of Santa was fun and even more fun the dream he has afterwards.

THE COOPER EXTRACTION

GUEST CAST
Laurie Metcalf (3rd Rock From The Sun)
Carol Ann Susi (Sabrina: The Teenage Witch)
Brian Smith (Casual)
Rushing down snow covered hills, Amy and Penny are video skiing. Amy is winning because her center of gravity is very low; she is built like a pyramid. Leonard sprained his ankle playing. While Penny wants him to go to the hospital, Leonard refuses to go into the ER with another video game injury. Sheldon enters the living room and turns down a chance to play the game since he is on is way out to Texas. He is leaving immediately. Leonard inquires if someone is sick. It seems that Sheldon’s sister Missy is about to have a baby. Penny brightens up and is happy for the new Uncle Sheldon. Sheldon tells everyone that he is going to be Uncle Dr. Cooper. Amy wonders why no-one knew that his sister was pregnant. Sheldon also didn’t mentions his brother’s kidney stones. He then asks everybody people want to know everything that was coming out of his family’s genitals. Sheldon is going to fill in for his brother-in-law that was in a horrible motorcycle accident. Sheldon feels that he is lucky since he doesn’t have to be there for the blessed event. His sister Missy is due the next day, but since it took her six years to get through high school, Sheldon doesn’t know how long it’s going to take. Amy offers to give him a ride to the airport, but he doesn’t want to inconvenience his girlfriend. He does turn to Leonard and tells him that they have to leave in ten minutes.

Everybody minus Sheldon is together for a tree decorating Christmas party. Since Sheldon is absent, so are all of his tree decorating rules (including the required spacing of the ornaments.) Now, both Star Trek and Star Wars ornaments can now be on the same branches. The fact that Howard is enjoying trimming the Christmas tree might cause his mother to have a heart attack. Bernadette then takes the opportunity to photograph Howard trimming the tree. Penny is a little short of funds this year so her Christmas present is going to be giving him herself, which is what Leonard got last year and last night. Stuart then joins them as Amy’s computer notifies her of an incoming video chat from Sheldon. He thinks that they are so thoughtful that they have a Christmas party after he left since he isn’t into Christmas. His sister has been in labor for an hour and is having a home birth. Raj points out that many women want to give birth at home in a warm comfortable environment. Sheldon feels that she will also turn her bedroom into an “amniotic Slip and Slide.” Sheldon then gets called away to have a family picture taken because his sister is fully dilated and there is no blood yet.

Raj wants to know if Amy would want Sheldon there if she was having a baby. Penny breaks in that she doesn’t think Sheldon will be there when they make the baby. Bernadette brought over the holiday film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” to watch. Neither Raj nor Stuart has seen it. Amy describes the movie as being at Christmastime, Jimmy Stewart is really depressed and wants to jump off a bridge and kill himself which is pretty much Stuart’s life story. Bernadette then adds that he gets to see what life would be like if he never was born. Penny wonders if anyone ever considered life without someone. (Leonard: “Knock… knock… knock… What do you think?… Knock… knock… knock… What do you think?… knock… knock… knock… What do you think?” doing Sheldon’s knock.) Amy points out that despite the jokes they make about Sheldon, none of them would be there if it wasn’t for Sheldon. None of them would know Amy. Bernadette would never have met Howard. Leonard would not have been dating Penny. Leonard disagrees because he has been going to The Cheesecake Factory for years and he could have still picked her up causing everybody to laugh. Penny then explains what would have happened.

Howard, Raj and Leonard are having a meal and Leonard tells them that he is going to finally ask her out. Penny comes over to ask what they want to eat and Leonard can’t even speak to her. He then walks over to her, introduces himself and tells her that there is something he has wanted to ask her for a long time. If she is not too busy he wants to know if she could tell him…where the restroom is. Penny remarks that he is too late looking strangely at him. Back in Apartment 4A, Leonard objects that he would not have wet himself though Raj and Howard think that she got the story right. Leonard did ask Penny out, but that could not have happened if he hadn’t moved in with Sheldon. Of course, Penny would never have been introduced Howard to Bernadette. Howard replies that he could have also met her when she was a waitress. Bernadette explains her version where she tells Penny that she finds Howard cute. Then she sees Raj feeding Howard a bite of his dessert and then cleaning off his mouth with a napkin and Bernadette changes her mind. Leonard then confronts Penny that she wouldn’t have done so great herself due to the type of guys she had been dating. In Penny’s apartment she is preparing food and in walks Zack Johnson who calls her babe. She asks if he paid the rent and instead Zack bought some magic beans. Then Leonard makes them both pee on themselves since Penny did the same thing to him.
Sheldon calls back claiming that he has seen lady things that he “shouldn’t have seen.” According to Amy, they don’t normally look like that. Sheldon then says that that is people should not be coming out of people to make new humans; to him, it’s like a “dirty magic show.” Sheldon’s mother calls him to bring a mop. Sheldon is distraught that despite having two PhDs, he is reduced to being the janitor of his sister’s birth canal. Sheldon sends everyone a holiday email including a picture from the birthing room that disgusts Leonard, Penny, and Raj. Back to the “It’s a Wonderful Life” discussion, Penny would still have met Sheldon. Amy describes how without Leonard there, Penny would try and seduce Sheldon. Penny stalks Sheldon in the laundry room wearing her short shorts. She sunders over to him and asks if he is doing his laundry. Of course, because Saturday night is laundry night and he is in a laundry room. Sheldon tells her that her inference is justified which Penny thinks is so funny. Penny is going to do her dirty laundry, which isn’t as dirty as the dirty girl wearing them, who starts to undress. The real Penny wants her to stop, but the guys disagree. Now in her bra, Penny asks Sheldon what he thinks. He finds her a tad asymmetrical, but nothing to worry about. Penny tells him that they are going to do it in the laundry room right now. Sheldon reminds her that he is saving himself for a bespectacled neurobiologist who has hair the color of mud as Amy tells the story.
Sheldon calls back from Texas saying that things are going better. His mother asked him to get some towels, so he left and went to “Bed, Bath and Beyond”. Missy then screams while Sheldon is on the phone which he finds very rude. Amy has now diagrammed the absent Sheldon premise and tells Penny that she would never have met comic book legend Stan Lee. Howard would have always known Raj and Leonard. Leonard never got an apartment with Howard because of the latter’s “serious relationship with his mother”. Bernadette again mentions that if they had not met, he would still be living with his mother. Howard tells his version, first he is taking his mother her lunch in her bedroom and that she didn’t get enough food. Later he is seen feeding her, but she is still in the bedroom dead reminiscent of the mother in the movie Psycho with Howard now doing her voice. Howard is neutral on whether she starved to death or if he actually killed her. Leonard and Raj did not move in together because Raj thought he was going to be a ladies’ man. In Raj’s scenario, Leonard is living with him as Raj cooks dinner for a fat Leonard. Since he had no girlfriend, he compensated by overeating, so Raj deep fried some food. Then Leonard also makes Raj fat in the living together scenario. Then Stuart shows up (fat) to have dinner with them because to be in someone’s story. In Amy’s case, without Sheldon she is alone in her apartment crying over a cupcake and singing “Happy Birthday” to herself. (Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me. There’s tears in the frosting, Happy Birthday to me) Stuart shows up and blows a party favor in her face to be in another story.
Sheldon is back reports that his sister had a baby boy. Sheldon was not sure he was going to make it, however his mother gave him some ice chips and his sister (in labor) kept giving him encouragement. He’s not going to go back because he finds the baby irritating since he has literally been crying his entire life. Howard tells him that the baby is already taking after Uncle Shelly. Amy tells him to return to be an intelligent role model for his nephew, to which Sheldon agrees. They were amazed that Sheldon did exactly what Amy asked him to do. Even though Amy kept telling the gang the impact Sheldon had on them, he has had an impact on Amy too. Amy felt if that were really true she wouldn’t still be living alone. Leonard tells her that Sheldon cares for her more than she really thinks. Amy doesn’t believe him so he shows that her picture is on Sheldon’s screen saver along with Swamp Thing, Madame Curie, Stephen Hawking, etc. Amy gets excited that Sheldon is really into her. And she doesn’t mind Madame Curie being there because she is already dead. After Sheldon returns, Amy is walking up the stairs and staring at Sheldon. She tells Sheldon that she missed him to which he quotes Han Solo, “I know.” After Amy asks if he missed her, he replies that he would have liked her to be with him (or had gone in his place). Amy also wonders how he felt holding his nephew hoping that he might want one with her someday. He looked into the blank innocent eyes of someone who didn’t comprehend anything he said, which he said was like another day at the office for him. Finally, a fat Raj and Leonard are eating at the Cheesecake factory and again Leonard asks Penny out. She already has a boyfriend, a very suave looking Stuart. Of course, this situation was Stuart’s Christmas fantasy.
A great Christmas episode showing the gang how much Sheldon has changed there lives and how much he means to them.

THE CLEAN ROOM INFILRATION

GUEST CAST
Brian George (Ghost World)
Dakin Matthews (Lincoln)
At dinner Raj tells everyone that his parents are divorcing and getting themselves lawyers. Sheldon would not hire the She-Hulk as a lawyer, if he ever needed one. Penny compliments him for almost staying on topic for once. Sheldon adds that since she is the only monster at her law firm, she must be an affirmative-action hire. Since Raj’s father is visiting, he can’t host Christmas eve dinner so Amy volunteers since she always wanted to host a traditional English Victorian Christmas for gang including parlor games, goose, figgy pudding. Sheldon doesn’t like figgy pudding because of all of the raisins and won’t come. Amy replies that he is coming. Sheldon claims that she hates him; however, Amy corrects him that she loves him, Sheldon adds that there are still a lot of raisins in it. Raj is a little miffed about themed-holidays since they didn’t like his “Tom Hanks”-giving.
On Christmas Eve, Leonard and Howard are in contamination garments in the university cleanroom constructing an experiment to detect cosmic particles. Leonard likes the fact that he has no allergy problems due to the sterile room. A pigeon flies in the room because Howard left the loading dock door open. Now they have to get rid of it before the bird soils the dust-free room. Howard doesn’t want to call facilities and get blamed. First he suggests they turn off all the lights except for one, but that is to attract moths. At Amy’s apartment, Amy and Penny are visiting with Raj and his father who has nothing good to say about his wife. On his twenty hour airplane flight without his wife, he didn’t pray for the plane to crash. The guys call Raj to help them deal with the pigeon. Dr. Koothrappali stays with the girls since he just had a long flight which doesn’t make Penny happy. Bernadette has picked up Sheldon and is singing Christmas carols about Santa Claus in her car with too much Christmas joy until Sheldon turns off the music. Sheldon’s uncle did many of the things that Santa is known for and got arrested.  He and Amy decided not to get each other something for Christmas since Sheldon doesn’t enjoy it. While they were Christmas tree  shopping, Amy kissed him under the mistletoe in public making Sheldon very unhappy. He felt he was part of a Tijuana sex show. Sheldon has decided to punish her to make her feel as miserable as he does so he is going to buy her a Christmas present. Since she has not gotten him one, that would ruin her Christmas and make her sad according to Sheldon’s logic. She should be so unhappy that she won’t make him celebrate the holiday again ever.
Howard is trying to catch the pigeon in a garbage bag with a Slim Jim which Leonard thinks is stupid. He just wants to call building services. Howard doesn’t want to get the blame even though he always tries to hide his culpability. Raj arrives and wants to know the situation. Leonard explains that Howard wants to catch the bird in a garbage bag with a Slim Jim which he holds up and the pigeon snatches and flies off. Back at Amy’s place, Dr. Koothrappali thinks that it is too soon to think about dating again. Penny volunteers if she were free and he didn’t talk about Star Trek all the time. Amy brings out her first parlor game that involves blowing a ball of wool across a table. Penny also tells Raj’s father that Amy is also taken. While trying to catch the pigeon, Howard tells Leonard that he is jealous because they used to be best friends till Raj came along. Leonard thinks that happened because Howard can push Raj around. Then they start arguing who is smarter and conclude that Raj is smarter than Howard though since its Christmas they decide that Howard is smarter one. Raj is sure that it was Howard that let the pigeon in. Bernadette and Sheldon are shopping for the perfect gift to ruin Amy’s Christmas. Bernadette’s favorite gifts from Howard were based upon what Howard knew about her. Amy likes Chaucer, medieval literature and old French movies which make her eyes light up according to Sheldon. He also like the way her fingers dance around whenever she hears harp music. He does admit that he really loves Amy and wants to find a gift to make her feel small and worthless.

Amy and Raj’s father are now blowing the ball of wool back and forth across the table with increasing boredom. Dr. Koothrappali wins though Penny quips that it probably doesn’t feel that way. He remembers the theme parties that his wife used to throw. She and Raj spent a lot of time together since he worked a lot. Penny brings up Raj’s girlfriend Emily also works a lot. She thinks that that is funny.Sheldon is now sitting on Santa’s lap telling him that he wants their picture together to punish his girlfriend for making him celebrate Christmas. Santa thinks that dating Sheldon is punishment enough. They smile for the camera.
Back in the clean room, they are trying to catch the bird with a blanket and a fire extinguisher to get him out the door. Howard has the blanket and then complains that they don’t think he is smart enough to use the fire extinguisher. They trade tools and Howard attacks the pigeon with the fire extinguisher which causes the bird to fall dead onto the floor. Howard is upset because that something similar happened when he was a child and the tried to revive the bird with electricity, setting the poor thing on fire. The bird is not breathing so Howard gives it CPR thus reviving the bird. As they carry the bird toward the door to let him out, a crow flies into the room because no one has yet closed the door. As the crow looks down at the guys, they debate calling building services on Christmas Eve. Penny calls Leonard and just tells them to leave. Even though they signed into the clean room, she tells them to erase their names off the list and get out of there. The next scene shows them in the car singing “Jingle Bells” heading toward the party. After finishing the figgy pudding, Sheldon first complains about the raisins. Amy tells him that they were figs, so Sheldon is fine with that. Dr. K offers to help; however, since he Heimliched a ball of wool out of her, he didn’t have to. Sheldon gives Amy his gift of his picture with Santa in a frame that plays a personal Christmas greeting to her from him and she loves it. Sheldon tells her that she got him nothing expecting her to be sad. He is happy because they will never do it again. Despite what she said, she made Sheldon a gift, his favorite cookies from his Meemaw’s recipe. Amy talked to her to get the recipe. Sheldon tries one and calls them perfect because they taste like her hug.
Amy wishes Sheldon Merry Christmas. Everyone is happy and Sheldon wonders if giving is what Christmas is all about in a softer gentler tone. Raj ends Sheldon’s festive mood when he reaches for one of his cookies and Sheldon tells him to take his hands off them. Finally Amy wants them all to sit down and play “Hot Boiled Beans.” Amy explains that one person leaves the room while the rest hide a small item in the room. The first person is invited back in by saying, “Hot boiled beans and bacon for supper, hurry up before it gets cold!” Raj shakes his head and claims that if they think this holiday theme is better than his idea for a “Tom Hanks”-giving, then they are all crazy.
Another great Xmas episode. The highlight being Sheldon trying to purchase the best Christmas special for Amy even thou his motives are devious it all works out and ends up being very touching come episodes end

The Big Bang theory is a great show! This season does not disappoint. The laughs continue and the story continues to evolve. There are a few surprises this season that I didn’t see coming. The characters are relatable and worth watching. I’m happy this show was renewed for 2 additional seasons.THIS SEASON INCLUDES

10.1) The Conjugal Conjecture

The gang prepares for Leonard and Penny’s second wedding ceremony. Sheldon and Leonard fear that Mary slept with Alfred the previous night, though they swear nothing happened. They do, however, plan to visit each other, irritating Beverly. Penny’s family arrives. Her mother worries that her son’s recent jail stint will cause Leonard’s family to think of them as white trash. The ceremony goes well, with Leonard and Penny declaring their love for each other, Beverly and Alfred grateful they at least made Leonard together during their relationship, and Sheldon declaring his love for the couple. Howard is contacted by Colonel Richard Williams of the Air Force Research Laboratory, who scares both him and Raj. Howard eventually agrees to meet him, but the colonel refuses to give the reason for his interest.

10.2) The Military Miniaturization

Leonard and Howard worry the military might try to take over the guidance system project for weaponry, but Sheldon does not. They make him promise not to talk during the meeting with Colonel Williams. The Colonel is impressed with Howard as the main brain behind the project, making Sheldon squirm. The military wants a smaller version made, perhaps in four months. Sheldon, no longer able to contain himself, promises to have it in two. Though the others are angry about such a tight deadline, they all have fun with their new lab’s retinal scanner. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical company employees have found out Bernadette is pregnant, infuriating her as they might take her off the next big medical project. Penny admits she was the one who let this slip. Bernadette forgives her because she intends to threaten her boss with a lawsuit if she is taken off the project.

10.3) The Dependence Transcendence

Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard are exhausted from trying to meet the Air Force’s deadline that Sheldon set into motion. In a dream, The Flash persuades Sheldon to take an energy drink. After it wears off, Sheldon is convinced he is addicted, further annoying the other two. Sheldon breaks down and admits he cannot figure out the math and isn’t as smart as he thought. The others comfort him. Facing Colonel Williams, they admit that they need at least two years, which is easily accepted as the military is used to contractors not meeting deadlines. Amy takes Penny to a party thrown by Bert the geologist, but they discover they are the only ones there. Bert shocks them by saying Amy is the most popular scientist at Caltech, and he falls in love with Penny. Raj tries to help Bernadette get the nursery ready, but she doesn’t enjoy it. She admits her lack of excitement makes her fear she cannot be maternal. Raj calls his OB-GYN father, who tells Bernadette that, while she may not like babies in general, she can still love her own child.

11.4) The Cohabitation Experimentation

After a plumbing problem makes Amy’s apartment uninhabitable for five weeks, Leonard and Penny suggest Amy move into Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment. After Amy proposes their cohabitation as an experiment, Sheldon agrees to move with her into Penny’s apartment, thrilling Leonard and Penny. Amy’s first night in Sheldon’s bed is rough and she doesn’t get much sleep due to Sheldon’s tossing and turning. The next morning, they fight over scientific integrity, working themselves up until Amy suggests they head for Penny’s apartment to make out. After an ultrasound, Howard and Bernadette are angry that Raj knows the sex of their baby when they had elected not to find out. They have a bad night debating whether to call Raj about it.

10.5) The Hot Tub Contamination

Amy and Sheldon storm into Leonard and Penny’s apartment arguing about Sheldon requiring a bathroom schedule. To help him cool off, Penny takes Sheldon to an ice cream parlor, where he tries to hunt for a different romantic partner. Sheldon confesses he once walked in on his father with another woman, which is why he always knocks three times when entering a room now, and it makes him worry that he’ll hurt Amy one day. Penny convinces him to give the relationship a chance. Leonard coaches Amy on how to live with Sheldon. Returning, Sheldon agrees to compromise, so he does away with the bathroom schedule and agrees to share a toothbrush holder, a big step for Sheldon. After a cancelled weekend away, Howard and Bernadette find Raj and Stuart secretly coming into their house and using the hot tub. They listen in as Raj reveals he is now single, but finally kick them out when Stuart says he isn’t wearing a bathing suit.10.6) The Fetal Kick Catalyst

Sheldon throws a brunch to surprise Amy, who wanted to invite guests over; Stuart, Bert from the geology lab, and a Romanian neighbor from downstairs attend. Stuart is insulted when he learns that the brunch was a test run before inviting others over; Sheldon apologizes and they get drunk, complimenting each other and annoying Amy. Penny gets invited to a Van Nuys Comic-Con event to sign autographs since she starred in two Serial Apeist movies; she is humiliated by fans deriding her poor acting ability but loving her topless shower scene. Leonard ends up holding court describing how he married such an attractive woman. Howard finally feels the baby kick. He and Raj go shopping, buying a crib and a minivan, but Howard injures his back and they drive to the ER.10.7) The Veracity Elasticity

Sheldon finds out via Bernadette and Howard that Amy’s apartment was repaired two weeks ago and that Amy lied about it to keep living with him. Sheldon forgives her and wants to keep living with her, but is torn about where he really belongs. He chooses to live with Amy. Meanwhile, Penny has been secretly moving Leonard’s collectibles into storage. He confronts her, but he agrees to let her decorate their bedroom to make her feel at home, putting his stuff into Sheldon’s old room.

10.8) The Brain Bowl Incubation

Amy uses skin cells from her and Sheldon to produce some primitive neurons through transdifferentiation. This inspires Sheldon to want to have a child with Amy, though she is not enthusiastic about his plan to have a child immediately. Sheldon launches a plan to seduce his girlfriend. Raj becomes attracted to Issabella, a cleaning woman at his lab, and fixes her dinner. She is insulted when she discovers that Raj told his friends that she was a fellow astronomer, but agrees to another date.

10.9) The Geology Elevation

Sheldon learns that Bert has won a MacArthur Fellowship prize for his work on endolithic organisms and has to deal with his professional jealousy. The rest of the group discuss their own internal jealousies. Professor Hawking calls Sheldon and explains that even he gets jealous. In order to make peace, Sheldon goes with Bert to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Meanwhile, Howard finds a remote-controlled miniature Stephen Hawking he once built and, while everyone (except Kripke) thinks it is offensive, Hawking would actually like the idea.

10.10) The Property Division Collision

After Sheldon and Amy take the ugly portrait of Penny and Amy to Leonard and Penny’s apartment, the guys start to divide up their belongings. When Sheldon tries to take everything, a dispute over the official apartment flag starts a war between Sheldon and Leonard. Sheldon rents out his old room to an old man, Theodore (Christopher Lloyd), who helps them to realize that Sheldon moving out is affecting both of them deeply, leading Sheldon to acquiesce regarding the flag. Stuart brings Howard and Bernadette a gift and ends up moving back in because he was evicted from his apartment. Stuart helps them with baby things to justify his moving in, starting a war with Raj who claims he was first in line to help them. Finally, Bernadette goes into labor and everyone heads to the hospital for the arrival of the baby.

10.11) The Birthday Synchronicity

The impending birth of Bernadette and Howard’s baby coincides with Amy’s birthday, which interferes with Sheldon and Amy’s annual sex date. Raj accidentally reveals the baby is a girl and is kicked out of the Wolowitz house. When the time comes for the baby to be delivered, everyone waits in the lobby of the hospital. The friends all reminisce about how much has changed in ten years, though Raj feels he has done the least, which further upsets him. Halley Wolowitz is born and Raj is honored to be her godfather. The baby’s cry sounds like her grandmother, Debbie Wolowitz. After going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Amy and Sheldon finally have their annual birthday coital festivities.

10.12) The Holiday Summation

After the Christmas holiday, Sheldon and Amy tell Leonard and Penny about their visit to his mother Mary, who upset Sheldon by confessing she never thought he would find a partner. Sheldon reacted by acting anti-socially and getting his ear pierced. Also, Leonard and Penny had a series of mishaps chopping down a Christmas tree and bringing it home, while Bernadette and Howard have been struggling to cope with a constantly screaming baby.

10.13) The Romance Recalibration

Penny feels Leonard is not putting enough effort into their relationship now that they are married. Leonard thinks that he is the only one putting in any effort at all. Angrily, Penny takes Amy with her to a spa weekend in lieu of Leonard. Sheldon and Leonard soon follow, solving the problem by having Sheldon create a Relationship Agreement for Leonard and Penny just like Sheldon and Amy’s. Meanwhile, Howard and Raj create a path in the baby’s room to the crib without causing the floorboards to squeak, thus disturbing baby Halley, with an overly complicated solution.

10.14) The Emotion Detection Automation

Sheldon wants to understand others’ emotions better and gets an experimental machine from MIT that reads other people for him. It reveals Leonard is angry about Penny inviting her ex-drug dealing brother to stay with them while he applies for a job at her pharmaceutical company. Sheldon is upset the machine works so well, as he feels he cannot understand others himself, but Amy comforts him, proud of his progress. Leonard and Penny apologize for blaming their fight on him, while Penny still intends to blame Leonard to her family as the reason why Randall cannot stay with them. Meanwhile, Raj calls together several of his ex-girlfriends to find out why he’s still single. Emily Sweeney, Lucy, Claire, and Emily the deaf woman leave him feeling down, since they all found better relationships after they dumped him. Howard promises that, if things don’t work out with Bernadette, he’ll become Raj’s partner in thirty years.10.15) The Locomotion Reverberation

Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard are nearly finished with their guidance system for the military, but Sheldon thinks it could be even smaller. To distract him, Leonard gifts him a trip to be a train conductor in Nevada. The trip greatly excites Sheldon, becoming all he thinks about. After seeing Sheldon’s theory, Colonel Williams orders his smaller version to be made instead, so Leonard and Howard try and get him to come back, with Howard promising to teach him the mechanics of trains in exchange for his help. Meanwhile, Penny and Amy take Bernadette out to get her mind off motherhood duties, but the new baby has made Penny and Amy sad over the slow progress in their own relationships. Raj and Stuart babysit Halley while having a few minor mishaps.

10.16) The Allowance Evaporation

Sheldon and Amy are out on a date when Bert the geologist is stood up. He says he admires them other than their only having sex once a year. Amy is angry Sheldon told everyone at the university. Sheldon apologizes, now understanding the need for privacy, and also informs Amy of one of his private secrets: that he got his driver’s license two years ago, but lets her chauffeur him to feel important. Meanwhile, Raj’s father has stopped trying to find him a wife since Raj still relies on him to pay for everything. Raj’s friends make him realize he is spoiled. Raj decides to stop taking the money to prove everyone wrong, though his father is very happy.

10.17) The Comic-Con Conundrum

Raj appoints Sheldon as his financial manager and is told he cannot afford to go to San Diego Comic-Con this year. Raj tries selling his collectibles and working for Stuart to make extra money. Howard does a bunch of chores so Bernadette will let him leave for five days. Penny says she wants to go with the guys to make Leonard happy, but they both think she’ll be miserable, leading to tension until Sheldon and Amy reveal the truth. Howard and Bernadette try to pay Raj for babysitting Halley, but he rejects the money along with his chance to go. Leonard decides to stay home to be with Penny and Howard does the same for his family. Sheldon still plans on going, confounding Amy with his attempts to have her join him.

10.18) The Escape Hatch Identification

Raj can no longer afford his apartment, so Leonard and Penny temporarily give him Sheldon’s old room. This makes Sheldon uncomfortable and he calls Beverly to have her analyze why. She claims he views his old room as an escape hatch should things go wrong with Amy and that Leonard and Penny need a roommate to distract themselves from their own relationship problems. The group’s fighting leads to Raj leaving and scaring Howard, Bernadette, and Stuart in the middle of the night. The couples are able to work through their issues and Raj is invited back to stay with Leonard and Penny.

10.19) The Collaboration Fluctuation

Sheldon and Amy attempt to analyze the Copenhagen interpretation using the neurobiology of decision-making. Professionally collaborating for the first time, they try to be nice for the sake of their relationship, but their work is of poor quality. They find that insulting each other makes them more creative, so they compile a list of topics on which insults are allowed. Meanwhile, Penny and Raj bond over girly things, causing Leonard to feel left out. Howard and Bernadette suggest that he talk to them, but Raj and Penny talk over Leonard about his feelings.

10.20) The Recollection Dissipation

Sheldon pushes himself to work on the guidance system with Howard and Leonard and his project with Amy on the same day. He catches a cold and wakes up the next day, half-naked and with no memory of what he did after he took cold medicine. His notebook of classified information on the military project is gone. Tracking his phone, they realize Sheldon went to a Western-themed bar. He gets the notebook back, but learns he told everyone there about the project after making them pinky swear to secrecy. Meanwhile, Bernadette feels guilty about returning to work so soon and leaving Halley. Howard thinks she is mad at him, but makes her feel better by saying that they can change their choices if they want and Halley won’t remember this anyway. Amy performs Soft Kitty for Sheldon in different languages using an autoharp.

10.21) The Separation Agitation

Bert the geologist interrupts the latest “Fun with Flags” episode to tell everyone he has a girlfriend now, a personal trainer named Rebecca. He brings her to meet the gang, but it becomes clear that she is only with Bert for his grant money. They convince him to dump her. However, he misses her, calling “Fun With Flags” again to say that he got her back by purchasing her a jet ski. Meanwhile, Howard, Bernadette, and Stuart are all upset about leaving Halley at the university’s daycare. Howard and Stuart take her out the first day to go to an aquarium.

10.22) The Cognition Regeneration

Sheldon loses his edge at online gaming and tries several new tasks to keep his mind sharp: baking with Raj, juggling with Howard, and riding a unicycle. Amy says maybe he should just focus on living well, though Sheldon wants to try stilts. Penny runs into her ex-boyfriend Zack, who offers her a job at his menu company. Penny likes the idea and Leonard reluctantly supports her. However, Zack says she cannot have the job as his fiance thinks it is a stupid idea for him to work with an ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Howard is tired of Bernadette making fun of his magic tricks and finds her old ventriloquist dummy, though she uses it to scare Howard.

10.23) The Gyroscopic Collapse

Leonard, Howard and Sheldon finish their gyroscope for the Air Force, only to have it confiscated by the military for classified reasons. The loss of the project causes Howard to become clingy with Bernadette, though he reminds her she’s behaved in a similar manner after setbacks at her own job. Raj plans to move out of Leonard and Penny’s apartment, and into a room above Bert’s garage. Amy is offered a summer position as a guest researcher at Princeton. Though Sheldon initially takes the news badly, he ultimately agrees she should accept the offer.

10.24) The Long Distance Dissonance

With Amy away, Sheldon’s old admirer Dr. Ramona Nowitzki begins to hang around him at Caltech and later his home. The rest of the gang become convinced she is pursuing Sheldon, alarming Amy. They do their best to keep her away from him, even following her to her car after dinner as a group. Sheldon doesn’t believe Ramona is romantically interested in him, but when he asks her about it, she kisses him. Sheldon immediately departs and flies to New Jersey, proposing to Amy the second she answers the door. With an exciting cliffhanger ending that wets the appetites for season 11. The show continues to be a juggernaut of comedy with many more adventures to come.

Kevin McKidd (Dog Soldiers)
Kathleen Quinlan (Apollo 13)
Sydney Pollack (Eyes Wide Shut)
Chris Messina (Cake)
Kadeem Hardison (Biker Boyz)

On Halloween night, 1998, at Cornell University, Tom Bailey, Jr. (Patrick Dempsey), in costume as Bill Clinton, slips into bed with his pre-arranged date, Monica. It turns out to be the wrong woman, Monica’s roommate Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), and Tom likes her because she is so honest and does not fling herself at him. Ten years later, Hannah and Tom are best friends. Tom is very wealthy because of his creation of the “coffee collar” and gets a dime every time it is used. Tom is with a different girl every week, while Hannah focuses on her career in an art museum. He is very content with his life, suspecting that Hannah is too. After Tom takes Hannah to his father’s (Sydney Pollack) sixth wedding, Hannah tells Tom she must go to Scotland for work. While she’s gone, Tom discovers that without her, being with another woman week after week is not very fulfilling. He realizes that he loves Hannah and decides to tell her his feelings when she gets back. Upon returning, Hannah surprisingly announces she is engaged to a wealthy Scot named Colin (Kevin McKidd). Hannah asks Tom to be her maid of honor for her wedding. After discussing it with his friends, Tom decides to be her maid of honor, only to spend time with her and try to convince her she does not even know Colin, as well as making her realize that he loves her and she should be marrying him. After arriving in Scotland at Eilean Donan Castle for the wedding, Tom realizes he is running out of time to stop Hannah. He meets all of Colin’s family and must perform in a variant of the Highland Games, in which the groom must compete to prove himself worthy of his bride. Tom is also in the competition with Colin but loses in the last round. Tom takes Hannah out for a walk, hoping to tell her how he feels. The other bridesmaids interrupt for Hannah’s bachelorette party. On her Hen Night, Hannah parades around a pub and sells her kisses for change. As she goes around, Hannah then kisses Tom. Though it just started as a peck on the cheek, it turns into a passionate kiss. That night, Hannah confronts Tom to ask about the kiss. When she gets to his room, her drunk cousin is there, trying to have sex with him. Hannah leaves and Tom runs after her. He knocks on her door, pleading for her to let him in. She refuses and asks about the kiss. He tells her he knew he, not Colin, was the one for her. She refuses to say that she thinks so too and instead tells Tom that she still expects to marry Colin the next day. Tom cannot go through with watching Hannah and Colin get married so he decides to go home. When questioned about his sudden departure shortly before the wedding is to take place, Hannah informs Colin that Tom is just afraid of losing her. On the way home, Tom realizes that he must stop the wedding and goes back on horseback. Just when the priest asks for objections, Tom is sent flying off his horse and through the chapel doors. Seeing her best friend on the floor, Hannah rushes to him. As he struggles to stand up, he tells her that he loves her more than anything and that she should marry him. They then share a kiss. Hannah tells Colin that she is very sorry and that he is the perfect guy, just not the perfect guy for her. Colin’s grandmother then tells Colin, in Scots, to “deck” Tom, which he does without hesitation. Hannah and Tom eventually get married. Melissa catches the bouquet and then links arms with Tom’s dad, to which he says “Number 6?” and his lawyer says “7”. Hannah and Tom go on their honeymoon. Tom turns on the light just to see if he has got the right girl and Hannah replies “You do”. The two kiss and as Hannah turns off the light, Tom says “Oh, Monica” and Hannah replies “Oh, Bill.”For the most part Made of Honor is by the numbers romantic comedy. Sydney Pollack provides welcome comic relief and staid fatherly advice. Kathleen Quilan is great in the supporting role of Hannah’s mother Joan. Too bad she doesn’t have a bigger role. But she has a moving moment with Monaghan as Mom talks about Hannah’s late father. Made of Honor  is enjoyable for what it is: cookie cutter romantic comedy. We can suspend our disbelief, because Dempsey and Monaghan are great together.

The film opens on a stormy Alabama beach with two children, Melanie Smooter and Jake Perry. Jake has brought Melanie out to show her the glass sculptures that result when sand is struck by lightning. They discuss their future together, with Jake asserting they will be married one day. In the present day, Melanie has changed her last name to Carmichael, a rich local family, to hide her poor Southern roots. She is a successful up-and-coming fashion designer in New York City. After becoming engaged to Andrew, Melanie goes home alone to Alabama to tell her parents. In reality she is going to procure a divorce from her estranged husband Jake. Andrew’s mother, the Mayor of New York, expresses doubt that Melanie is good enough for her son, whom she is grooming to eventually run for President of the United States. In Alabama, Melanie asks Jake why he has returned the divorce papers unsigned for the last seven years, but he orders her out of his house, eventually calling the sheriff (another childhood friend) to intervene. When Melanie’s father brings her home from the station she announces her engagement. Hoping to spur Jake to sign the papers, Melanie empties out his checking account, after learning that her name is still on it. Jake says he will sign the papers in the morning, lamenting “nobody finds their soulmate when they’re ten years old”. Following Jake to a local bar, Melanie gets drunk and embarrasses herself in front of her childhood friends, expressing disgust at their lifestyle, confessing that Jake got her pregnant as teens and outing a mutual friend, Bobby Ray Carmichael. When Melanie wakes up the next morning, the divorce papers are lying on her bed, finally signed by Jake.Melanie visits the Carmichael plantation to apologize to Bobby Ray, where she is cornered by a private detective sent to dig up dirt for the mayor. Realizing her predicament, Bobby Ray pretends to be her cousin, backing up her pretense that this is her childhood home. Melanie soon reconciles with her other friends, and learns that Jake followed her to New York City to win her back—intimidated by the size of Manhattan, he returned home determined to make something of himself first. Melanie now realizes why Jake never signed the divorce papers. Andrew arrives at the Carmichael Plantation to surprise Melanie. Jake takes him to a Civil War reenactment, where Melanie is with her father. On the way, knowing who Andrew is, Jake regales him with the story of “Felony” Melanie Smooter, a young girl who once tied dynamite to a cat’s tail and then was arrested after it ran into the bank. When Andrew sees Melanie at the battlefield, she tells him Jake is her ex-husband. When her father introduces himself as Earl Smooter, Andrew realizes that Melanie has lied to him about who she really is and leaves. Andrew soon appears at Melanie’s parents’ house, having gotten over the shock and admitting he still wants to marry her, here in Alabama.Once Melanie’s friends from New York arrive, they browse at a glazier whose wares they all have admired in New York, only to realize it is Jake.

Melanie’s lawyer interrupts the wedding ceremony, bringing the divorce papers that Melanie herself has missed signing. Melanie hesitates, realizing her love for Jake. She wishes Andrew luck in finding a good woman. Andrew, distressed but showing no ill-feelings, wishes her well in return. His mother explodes, berating Andrew for risking his promising political career and verbally attacking Melanie. She then insults the town and Melanie’s mother, for which Melanie punches her in the jaw, to the cheers of the crowd. Melanie, in her wedding gown in the rain, finds Jake planting metal rods in the beach to draw lighting to create more sand sculptures. She tells him they are still married, and asks why he didn’t tell her he came to New York. They repeat the conversation from when they were children about why they want to be married. As Jake and Melanie kiss, sheriff Wade “arrests” them and takes them to the bar owned by Jake’s mother, where their friends and family are waiting. The pair finally get their long-awaited first dance as husband and wife, to the tune of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”. A mid-credits sequence shows that they have a daughter, Melanie continues to thrive as a designer and Jake opens a “Deep South Glass” franchise in New York. The concept and plot is very smart, when the tone is told with humour even in situations that are serious. In fact, if the movie hadn’t had humor, it would of fallen apart. The humor is lifting the story to a little more than just good. It is so fun, so full of genial and amusing characters, excellent acting and an excellent ending.

Faced with a demotion at work due to a drinking problem, Osbourne Cox angrily quits his job as a CIA analyst and resolves to write a memoir about his life and career. When his pediatrician wife Katie finds out, she sees it as a justifiable opportunity to file for divorce and continue her adulterous affair unimpeded. Taking her lawyer’s advice, she copies financial records and several other files from her husband’s computer onto a CD. These files contain a rambling, meaningless diatribe by Cox on purported CIA activities.
When the CD gets left on the locker room floor of Hardbodies, a local gym, by a careless law firm employee, it falls into the hands of dim-witted personal trainer Chad Feldheimer and his co-worker Linda Litzke, who mistakenly believe the numerical data in the Coxes’ bank records, and especially, Cox’s diatribes, to be highly sensitive government information. After getting the data traced back to Osbourne, who thinks his memoirs have been stolen, Chad and Linda plan to give the disc back to him for a reward, with Linda planning to use the money to pay for plastic surgery. When a phone call and subsequent meeting with Osbourne provoke a furious reaction and go horribly wrong, Chad and Linda turn over the disc to the Russian embassy, offering more information in return for monetary compensation. With no other data to give them, Linda persuades Chad to sneak into the Coxes’ home to get more files from their computer.
Meanwhile, Osbourne’s increasingly erratic behavior, aggravated in part by his encounters with Chad and Linda, prompt Katie to move ahead with the divorce proceedings. She changes the locks on their house, forcing Osbourne to move onto the sailboat they have docked on the Chesapeake Bay. With her husband out of the picture, Katie invites her lover, Harry Pfarrer, to move in. A womanizing, multi-adulterous deputy U.S. Marshal, Harry is coincidentally also secretly seeing Linda. Harry finds Chad, whom Linda sent to find more files on Osbourne, hiding in a wardrobe in the Coxes’ home, panics, and fatally shoots Chad.
Two days later at the CIA headquarters, Palmer Smith, Osbourne’s former superior, and his director learn that information from Osbourne has been given to the Russian Embassy. The two men are perplexed, given Osbourne’s low-level security clearance, the material delivered to the Russians being of no importance to anyone, and the apparent motive of all involved parties remaining unknown. Smith is told to maintain observation until the situation “makes sense.” Harry, burdened by keeping the day prior’s events secret, gets into an argument with Katie and decides to leave the house. On his way out, he spots a man who has been trailing him for the past several days. After tackling him to the ground, Harry finds out that the man is a private detective hired by his wife Sandra “Sandy” to gather evidence for impending divorce proceedings. Sandy is shown to be having an extramarital liaison of her own. Harry is devastated and goes to see an agitated Linda, who confides in Harry that Chad is missing. Harry agrees to help find Chad.
The next morning, Harry and Linda meet in a park. Linda spots a former date on a nearby bench (ostensibly waiting to meet another online dating hookup), who has also noticed her and is clearly looking in her direction. Harry notices this and asks Linda if she knows the man. Linda, embarrassed to admit to a previous assignation, denies knowing him, which makes Harry suspicious. Linda provides him with more information about Chad’s disappearance. When Linda mentions the name “Osbourne Cox,” Harry figures out that Chad is the man he shot. He panics, realizes that there are strange men in the park (most likely the CIA people trailing Linda) and flees, assuming Linda is a spy. Linda then turns to Ted Treffon, the kindhearted manager of Hardbodies, who has unrequited feelings for her and has been critical of Linda and Chad’s scheming thus far. In her frustration, Linda exclaims that she hates Ted, which devastates him. Believing the Russians have kidnapped Chad, he agrees to go to the Coxes’ home to search Osbourne’s computer. Unemployed and having spent the past several days living on a small boat, Osbourne becomes unhinged when he finds out that Katie has emptied his bank accounts and, no longer having keys, decides to break into the house to get some of his personal belongings. Finding Ted in the basement, Osbourne initially takes him to be Katie’s lover. He soon realizes Ted’s affiliation with Linda and what he refers to as the “league of morons” he feels that he has been struggling against his whole life and kills Ted.
At CIA headquarters a few days later, Palmer and his director try to understand what exactly happened. It is revealed that while trying to board a flight to Venezuela, Harry was detained because his name was on a hot list and that the CIA is holding Linda, who is promising to “play ball” and “sit on it” if they will pay for her plastic surgery. A CIA agent shot Osbourne during his assault on Ted and the bullet has put Osbourne in a coma. The director instructs Palmer to let Harry fly to Venezuela (as that country has no extradition treaty with the US and therefore will not send him back) and pay for Linda’s surgery. The director and Palmer conclude that despite their oversight and the unusual events that have unfolded, there appears to be no lesson for the agency to have learned, be it moral, espionage or otherwise. “I guess we learned not to do it again,” the director concludes (despite not knowing exactly what they did) and closes his file. Meanwhile, staff at the Russian embassy have dismissed the contents of Cox’s ramblings in the files from his computer—arguably the one factor that started off the entire chain of events—as “drivel”.The writing is brilliant and the Coens weave the story in such a way that it reminds me of their previous movie, The Big Lebowski. In the end, as J.K. Simmons character sums it up himself, nothing really happens, but while watching it all unfold, you can’t help but laugh at the absurdity.
