The Big Bang theory is a great show! This season does not disappoint. The laughs continue and the story continues to evolve. There are a few surprises this season that I didn’t see coming. The characters are relatable and worth watching. I’m happy this show was renewed for 2 additional seasons.THIS SEASON INCLUDES

10.1) The Conjugal Conjecture

The gang prepares for Leonard and Penny’s second wedding ceremony. Sheldon and Leonard fear that Mary slept with Alfred the previous night, though they swear nothing happened. They do, however, plan to visit each other, irritating Beverly. Penny’s family arrives. Her mother worries that her son’s recent jail stint will cause Leonard’s family to think of them as white trash. The ceremony goes well, with Leonard and Penny declaring their love for each other, Beverly and Alfred grateful they at least made Leonard together during their relationship, and Sheldon declaring his love for the couple. Howard is contacted by Colonel Richard Williams of the Air Force Research Laboratory, who scares both him and Raj. Howard eventually agrees to meet him, but the colonel refuses to give the reason for his interest.

10.2) The Military Miniaturization

Leonard and Howard worry the military might try to take over the guidance system project for weaponry, but Sheldon does not. They make him promise not to talk during the meeting with Colonel Williams. The Colonel is impressed with Howard as the main brain behind the project, making Sheldon squirm. The military wants a smaller version made, perhaps in four months. Sheldon, no longer able to contain himself, promises to have it in two. Though the others are angry about such a tight deadline, they all have fun with their new lab’s retinal scanner. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical company employees have found out Bernadette is pregnant, infuriating her as they might take her off the next big medical project. Penny admits she was the one who let this slip. Bernadette forgives her because she intends to threaten her boss with a lawsuit if she is taken off the project.

10.3) The Dependence Transcendence

Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard are exhausted from trying to meet the Air Force’s deadline that Sheldon set into motion. In a dream, The Flash persuades Sheldon to take an energy drink. After it wears off, Sheldon is convinced he is addicted, further annoying the other two. Sheldon breaks down and admits he cannot figure out the math and isn’t as smart as he thought. The others comfort him. Facing Colonel Williams, they admit that they need at least two years, which is easily accepted as the military is used to contractors not meeting deadlines. Amy takes Penny to a party thrown by Bert the geologist, but they discover they are the only ones there. Bert shocks them by saying Amy is the most popular scientist at Caltech, and he falls in love with Penny. Raj tries to help Bernadette get the nursery ready, but she doesn’t enjoy it. She admits her lack of excitement makes her fear she cannot be maternal. Raj calls his OB-GYN father, who tells Bernadette that, while she may not like babies in general, she can still love her own child.

11.4) The Cohabitation Experimentation

After a plumbing problem makes Amy’s apartment uninhabitable for five weeks, Leonard and Penny suggest Amy move into Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment. After Amy proposes their cohabitation as an experiment, Sheldon agrees to move with her into Penny’s apartment, thrilling Leonard and Penny. Amy’s first night in Sheldon’s bed is rough and she doesn’t get much sleep due to Sheldon’s tossing and turning. The next morning, they fight over scientific integrity, working themselves up until Amy suggests they head for Penny’s apartment to make out. After an ultrasound, Howard and Bernadette are angry that Raj knows the sex of their baby when they had elected not to find out. They have a bad night debating whether to call Raj about it.

10.5) The Hot Tub Contamination

Amy and Sheldon storm into Leonard and Penny’s apartment arguing about Sheldon requiring a bathroom schedule. To help him cool off, Penny takes Sheldon to an ice cream parlor, where he tries to hunt for a different romantic partner. Sheldon confesses he once walked in on his father with another woman, which is why he always knocks three times when entering a room now, and it makes him worry that he’ll hurt Amy one day. Penny convinces him to give the relationship a chance. Leonard coaches Amy on how to live with Sheldon. Returning, Sheldon agrees to compromise, so he does away with the bathroom schedule and agrees to share a toothbrush holder, a big step for Sheldon. After a cancelled weekend away, Howard and Bernadette find Raj and Stuart secretly coming into their house and using the hot tub. They listen in as Raj reveals he is now single, but finally kick them out when Stuart says he isn’t wearing a bathing suit.10.6) The Fetal Kick Catalyst

Sheldon throws a brunch to surprise Amy, who wanted to invite guests over; Stuart, Bert from the geology lab, and a Romanian neighbor from downstairs attend. Stuart is insulted when he learns that the brunch was a test run before inviting others over; Sheldon apologizes and they get drunk, complimenting each other and annoying Amy. Penny gets invited to a Van Nuys Comic-Con event to sign autographs since she starred in two Serial Apeist movies; she is humiliated by fans deriding her poor acting ability but loving her topless shower scene. Leonard ends up holding court describing how he married such an attractive woman. Howard finally feels the baby kick. He and Raj go shopping, buying a crib and a minivan, but Howard injures his back and they drive to the ER.10.7) The Veracity Elasticity

Sheldon finds out via Bernadette and Howard that Amy’s apartment was repaired two weeks ago and that Amy lied about it to keep living with him. Sheldon forgives her and wants to keep living with her, but is torn about where he really belongs. He chooses to live with Amy. Meanwhile, Penny has been secretly moving Leonard’s collectibles into storage. He confronts her, but he agrees to let her decorate their bedroom to make her feel at home, putting his stuff into Sheldon’s old room.

10.8) The Brain Bowl Incubation

Amy uses skin cells from her and Sheldon to produce some primitive neurons through transdifferentiation. This inspires Sheldon to want to have a child with Amy, though she is not enthusiastic about his plan to have a child immediately. Sheldon launches a plan to seduce his girlfriend. Raj becomes attracted to Issabella, a cleaning woman at his lab, and fixes her dinner. She is insulted when she discovers that Raj told his friends that she was a fellow astronomer, but agrees to another date.

10.9) The Geology Elevation

Sheldon learns that Bert has won a MacArthur Fellowship prize for his work on endolithic organisms and has to deal with his professional jealousy. The rest of the group discuss their own internal jealousies. Professor Hawking calls Sheldon and explains that even he gets jealous. In order to make peace, Sheldon goes with Bert to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Meanwhile, Howard finds a remote-controlled miniature Stephen Hawking he once built and, while everyone (except Kripke) thinks it is offensive, Hawking would actually like the idea.

10.10) The Property Division Collision

After Sheldon and Amy take the ugly portrait of Penny and Amy to Leonard and Penny’s apartment, the guys start to divide up their belongings. When Sheldon tries to take everything, a dispute over the official apartment flag starts a war between Sheldon and Leonard. Sheldon rents out his old room to an old man, Theodore (Christopher Lloyd), who helps them to realize that Sheldon moving out is affecting both of them deeply, leading Sheldon to acquiesce regarding the flag. Stuart brings Howard and Bernadette a gift and ends up moving back in because he was evicted from his apartment. Stuart helps them with baby things to justify his moving in, starting a war with Raj who claims he was first in line to help them. Finally, Bernadette goes into labor and everyone heads to the hospital for the arrival of the baby.

10.11) The Birthday Synchronicity

The impending birth of Bernadette and Howard’s baby coincides with Amy’s birthday, which interferes with Sheldon and Amy’s annual sex date. Raj accidentally reveals the baby is a girl and is kicked out of the Wolowitz house. When the time comes for the baby to be delivered, everyone waits in the lobby of the hospital. The friends all reminisce about how much has changed in ten years, though Raj feels he has done the least, which further upsets him. Halley Wolowitz is born and Raj is honored to be her godfather. The baby’s cry sounds like her grandmother, Debbie Wolowitz. After going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Amy and Sheldon finally have their annual birthday coital festivities.

10.12) The Holiday Summation

After the Christmas holiday, Sheldon and Amy tell Leonard and Penny about their visit to his mother Mary, who upset Sheldon by confessing she never thought he would find a partner. Sheldon reacted by acting anti-socially and getting his ear pierced. Also, Leonard and Penny had a series of mishaps chopping down a Christmas tree and bringing it home, while Bernadette and Howard have been struggling to cope with a constantly screaming baby.

10.13) The Romance Recalibration

Penny feels Leonard is not putting enough effort into their relationship now that they are married. Leonard thinks that he is the only one putting in any effort at all. Angrily, Penny takes Amy with her to a spa weekend in lieu of Leonard. Sheldon and Leonard soon follow, solving the problem by having Sheldon create a Relationship Agreement for Leonard and Penny just like Sheldon and Amy’s. Meanwhile, Howard and Raj create a path in the baby’s room to the crib without causing the floorboards to squeak, thus disturbing baby Halley, with an overly complicated solution.

10.14) The Emotion Detection Automation

Sheldon wants to understand others’ emotions better and gets an experimental machine from MIT that reads other people for him. It reveals Leonard is angry about Penny inviting her ex-drug dealing brother to stay with them while he applies for a job at her pharmaceutical company. Sheldon is upset the machine works so well, as he feels he cannot understand others himself, but Amy comforts him, proud of his progress. Leonard and Penny apologize for blaming their fight on him, while Penny still intends to blame Leonard to her family as the reason why Randall cannot stay with them. Meanwhile, Raj calls together several of his ex-girlfriends to find out why he’s still single. Emily Sweeney, Lucy, Claire, and Emily the deaf woman leave him feeling down, since they all found better relationships after they dumped him. Howard promises that, if things don’t work out with Bernadette, he’ll become Raj’s partner in thirty years.10.15) The Locomotion Reverberation

Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard are nearly finished with their guidance system for the military, but Sheldon thinks it could be even smaller. To distract him, Leonard gifts him a trip to be a train conductor in Nevada. The trip greatly excites Sheldon, becoming all he thinks about. After seeing Sheldon’s theory, Colonel Williams orders his smaller version to be made instead, so Leonard and Howard try and get him to come back, with Howard promising to teach him the mechanics of trains in exchange for his help. Meanwhile, Penny and Amy take Bernadette out to get her mind off motherhood duties, but the new baby has made Penny and Amy sad over the slow progress in their own relationships. Raj and Stuart babysit Halley while having a few minor mishaps.

10.16) The Allowance Evaporation

Sheldon and Amy are out on a date when Bert the geologist is stood up. He says he admires them other than their only having sex once a year. Amy is angry Sheldon told everyone at the university. Sheldon apologizes, now understanding the need for privacy, and also informs Amy of one of his private secrets: that he got his driver’s license two years ago, but lets her chauffeur him to feel important. Meanwhile, Raj’s father has stopped trying to find him a wife since Raj still relies on him to pay for everything. Raj’s friends make him realize he is spoiled. Raj decides to stop taking the money to prove everyone wrong, though his father is very happy.

10.17) The Comic-Con Conundrum

Raj appoints Sheldon as his financial manager and is told he cannot afford to go to San Diego Comic-Con this year. Raj tries selling his collectibles and working for Stuart to make extra money. Howard does a bunch of chores so Bernadette will let him leave for five days. Penny says she wants to go with the guys to make Leonard happy, but they both think she’ll be miserable, leading to tension until Sheldon and Amy reveal the truth. Howard and Bernadette try to pay Raj for babysitting Halley, but he rejects the money along with his chance to go. Leonard decides to stay home to be with Penny and Howard does the same for his family. Sheldon still plans on going, confounding Amy with his attempts to have her join him.

10.18) The Escape Hatch Identification

Raj can no longer afford his apartment, so Leonard and Penny temporarily give him Sheldon’s old room. This makes Sheldon uncomfortable and he calls Beverly to have her analyze why. She claims he views his old room as an escape hatch should things go wrong with Amy and that Leonard and Penny need a roommate to distract themselves from their own relationship problems. The group’s fighting leads to Raj leaving and scaring Howard, Bernadette, and Stuart in the middle of the night. The couples are able to work through their issues and Raj is invited back to stay with Leonard and Penny.

10.19) The Collaboration Fluctuation

Sheldon and Amy attempt to analyze the Copenhagen interpretation using the neurobiology of decision-making. Professionally collaborating for the first time, they try to be nice for the sake of their relationship, but their work is of poor quality. They find that insulting each other makes them more creative, so they compile a list of topics on which insults are allowed. Meanwhile, Penny and Raj bond over girly things, causing Leonard to feel left out. Howard and Bernadette suggest that he talk to them, but Raj and Penny talk over Leonard about his feelings.

10.20) The Recollection Dissipation

Sheldon pushes himself to work on the guidance system with Howard and Leonard and his project with Amy on the same day. He catches a cold and wakes up the next day, half-naked and with no memory of what he did after he took cold medicine. His notebook of classified information on the military project is gone. Tracking his phone, they realize Sheldon went to a Western-themed bar. He gets the notebook back, but learns he told everyone there about the project after making them pinky swear to secrecy. Meanwhile, Bernadette feels guilty about returning to work so soon and leaving Halley. Howard thinks she is mad at him, but makes her feel better by saying that they can change their choices if they want and Halley won’t remember this anyway. Amy performs Soft Kitty for Sheldon in different languages using an autoharp.

10.21) The Separation Agitation

Bert the geologist interrupts the latest “Fun with Flags” episode to tell everyone he has a girlfriend now, a personal trainer named Rebecca. He brings her to meet the gang, but it becomes clear that she is only with Bert for his grant money. They convince him to dump her. However, he misses her, calling “Fun With Flags” again to say that he got her back by purchasing her a jet ski. Meanwhile, Howard, Bernadette, and Stuart are all upset about leaving Halley at the university’s daycare. Howard and Stuart take her out the first day to go to an aquarium.

10.22) The Cognition Regeneration

Sheldon loses his edge at online gaming and tries several new tasks to keep his mind sharp: baking with Raj, juggling with Howard, and riding a unicycle. Amy says maybe he should just focus on living well, though Sheldon wants to try stilts. Penny runs into her ex-boyfriend Zack, who offers her a job at his menu company. Penny likes the idea and Leonard reluctantly supports her. However, Zack says she cannot have the job as his fiance thinks it is a stupid idea for him to work with an ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Howard is tired of Bernadette making fun of his magic tricks and finds her old ventriloquist dummy, though she uses it to scare Howard.

10.23) The Gyroscopic Collapse

Leonard, Howard and Sheldon finish their gyroscope for the Air Force, only to have it confiscated by the military for classified reasons. The loss of the project causes Howard to become clingy with Bernadette, though he reminds her she’s behaved in a similar manner after setbacks at her own job. Raj plans to move out of Leonard and Penny’s apartment, and into a room above Bert’s garage. Amy is offered a summer position as a guest researcher at Princeton. Though Sheldon initially takes the news badly, he ultimately agrees she should accept the offer.

10.24) The Long Distance Dissonance

With Amy away, Sheldon’s old admirer Dr. Ramona Nowitzki begins to hang around him at Caltech and later his home. The rest of the gang become convinced she is pursuing Sheldon, alarming Amy. They do their best to keep her away from him, even following her to her car after dinner as a group. Sheldon doesn’t believe Ramona is romantically interested in him, but when he asks her about it, she kisses him. Sheldon immediately departs and flies to New Jersey, proposing to Amy the second she answers the door. With an exciting cliffhanger ending that wets the appetites for season 11. The show continues to be a juggernaut of comedy with many more adventures to come.

tik-gerojEdlund first published the adventures of the Tick in a black-and-white comic book that gathered a cult following. Somehow, he got the attention of Fox’s animation studios, and his rather mature story—about an insanely strong, decidedly off-balanced escapee from a mental institution living in a world packed with obscure superheroes and bizarre villains (Chairface Chippendale, the Chainsaw Vigilante, the terrifying District Manager)—into a slightly less offensive, even funnier Saturday morning cartoon. The animated Tick lasted three seasons, and the adventures of Tick and his sidekick Arthur  and their battles against villains like the Eastern Bloc Robot Cowboy, the Guy with Ears Like Little Raisins, and Joseph Stalin, were all that got me up on weekend mornings. 1457674447338But Fox ruined things by trying to turn the show from a cult hit into a mainstream entertainment and they soon cancelled it. Then, five years later, a brief bout of insanity overtook the Fox executives and they commissioned a live-action version of the large, blue, polysyllabic hero. Bringing Tick into the real world without screwing it up would require finesse, and luckily Fox allowed Edlund a ton of creative input. And despite some changes, including the substitution of the comic’s sidekicks with new characters Captain Liberty (Liz Vassey) and Spanish lothario Batmanuel (Nestor Carbonell), the live-action version is surprisingly faithful to both the original incarnation and the cartoon series. A large measure of credit goes to star Patrick Warburton and David Burke, a pitch-perfect pair of Tick and moth. Warburton in particular captures his character’s blend of big-hearted hero and moron.1457674447338Of course, it isn’t perfect. It’s a low-budget series, and you can tell—the Tick’s costume (complete with motorized antenna)—looks great, but the rest of the set dressing looks rather cheap. And these first nine episodes are somewhat hit or miss, only occasionally scoring as consistently as the animated series. On the plus side, the show’s late-night time slot and intended adult audience meant the plots could be a bit more mature and subversive. Standouts include Arthur, Interrupted, in which Arthur comes out of the superhero closet to his family and is thrown into a “deprogramming facility” run by guest star Dave Foley; The Terror, in which the Tick faces the dastardly, 115-year-old villain, The Terror (Armin Shimerman); and the heroic duo’s acceptance into a smarmy, elitist superhero team in The Big Leaguestickep4Unfortunately, after bankrolling the series, Fox apparently decided they had made a series no one would watch, so they shelved it for a year. Then they slotted in on Thursdays against Survivor and Friends, pre-empted it so often it took three months to air eight episodes, showed everything out of order, and ended the show without airing the ninth and final episode (which was supposed to be episode three anyway). Even the clout of executive producer Barry Sonnenfeld couldn’t keep it on the air.tick+1If only more comic fans had committed to a show that actually did everything they’d asked… Fortunately, the American dvd gave fans the chance to relive this short lived show. thankfully the amazon revival has brought the Tick back in a form, but fans of the character should check out first attempt of a live action Tick.

The series is a satirical depiction of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by the Simpson family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition. Modern Simpsons episodes are often both overstuffed and under-imagined, resulting in two indifferent, inadequately realized stories. Even though the show has dropped in creativity and in the joke department, it’s still worthy.960

In 1916, Tsar Nicholas II hosts a ball at the Catherine Palace to celebrate the Romanov tricentennial. His mother, the Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna, is visiting from Paris and gives a music box and a necklace inscribed with the words “Together in Paris” as parting gifts to her youngest granddaughter, 8-year-old Grand Duchess Anastasia. The ball is suddenly interrupted by the sorcerer Grigori Rasputin, the former royal advisor of the Romanovs until he was banished by Nicholas II for treason. Feeling betrayed and seeking revenge, Rasputin sold his soul in exchange for an unholy reliquary, which he uses to place a curse on the Romanov family, sparking the Russian Revolution. Only Marie and Anastasia are able to escape the ensuing siege of the palace, thanks to a young servant boy named Dimitri who shows them a secret passageway in Anastasia’s room. Rasputin confronts the two royals outside on a frozen river, only to fall through the ice and drown. The pair manage to reach a moving train, but only Marie climbs aboard while Anastasia falls, hitting her head on the platform and giving her amnesia.
Ten years later, Russia is under communist rule and Marie has publicly offered 10 million rubles for the safe return of her granddaughter. Dimitri and his friend/partner-in-crime Vladimir search for a look-alike to bring to Paris and pass off as Anastasia so they can collect the reward. Elsewhere, Anastasia, now 18 years of age and using the name “Anya”, leaves the rural orphanage where she grew up, still suffering from amnesia. Accompanied by a stray puppy she names “Pooka”, she decides to head to Saint Petersburg, inspired by the passage on the necklace she still has. She is unable to leave Russia due to not having an exit visa, but an old woman advises her to see Dimitri at the abandoned palace where he has made residence. There she encounters Dimitri and Vladimir, who are impressed by her resemblance to the “real” Anastasia and decide to take her with them to Paris.
Bartok, Rasputin’s albino bat minion, is nearby and notices his master’s dormant reliquary suddenly revived by Anastasia’s presence; it drags him to limbo, where Rasputin survives. Enraged to hear that Anastasia escaped the curse, Rasputin sends his demonic minions from the reliquary to kill her; despite two assassination attempts, the trio manage to (unwittingly) foil him, forcing Rasputin and Bartok to travel back to the surface.
Anastasia, Dimitri, and Vladimir eventually reach Paris and go to meet Marie, who has given up the search: having been nearly fooled numerous times by impostors. Despite this, Marie’s cousin, Sophie, quizzes Anastasia to confirm her identity. Though Anastasia offers every answer taught to her, Dimitri finally realizes she is the real Anastasia when she (without being taught to) vaguely recollects how he had saved her ten years prior. Sophie, also convinced of Anastasia’s identity, arranges a meeting with Marie at the Palais Garnier Opera house. There, Dimitri tries to establish an introduction but Marie refuses, having already heard of Dimitri’s initial scheme to con her. Anastasia overhears the conversation and angrily leaves, feeling used. Dimitri then kidnaps Marie and takes her to see Anastasia, showing her the music box he recovered during their escape. Anastasia finally meets Marie and regains her memories as they converse, convincing the empress of her identity. The two are joyfully reunited.
Marie offers Dimitri the reward money, but to her surprise, he refuses it and leaves for Russia. Marie realizes that Dimitri was the servant boy that saved their lives ten years ago and that he loves Anastasia. That night at Anastasia’s return celebration, Marie informs her of Dimitri’s gesture, leaving Anastasia torn between Marie and Dimitri. However, soon after Marie tells Anastasia that she can have both, Pooka suddenly runs off. Anastasia chases him to the Pont Alexandre III, where she is trapped and attacked by Rasputin. Dimitri returns to save her but is injured and knocked unconscious while Bartok abandons Rasputin. In the struggle, Anastasia manages to get hold of Rasputin’s reliquary and crushes it under her foot, destroying it and disintegrating Rasputin, who is also finally destroyed.

In the aftermath, Dimitri and Anastasia reconcile; they then elope, and Anastasia sends a farewell letter to Marie and Sophie, promising to return one day. The couple kisses on a riverboat and Bartok shares a kiss with a female bat before bidding the audience farewell. One of the last visually stunning traditional animated films with a beautifully developed story and loveable characters. Everything is wonderful– the sets, the animation, the dresses, the journey to France, Paris, the songs..

Just Another Saturday Night

Marv (Mickey Rourke) regains consciousness on a highway overlooking the Projects, surrounded by several dead young men and a crashed police car, and with no memory of how he got there. He retraces his steps, recalling that since it’s Saturday, he watched Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) dance at Kadie’s Saloon. Stepping outside, he encounters four rich frat boys burning a homeless man alive. When Marv intervenes, the leader of the frat boys shoots him in the arm, calling him “Bernini Boy,” which Marv mishears as “Bernie.” They flee; Marv follows, stealing a Police car on the way, which he crashes into their car, leading to his blackout and memory loss. He follows the two surviving frat boys into The Projects, the neighborhood where he grew up. With the assistance of the deadly residents lurking in the shadows, he dispatches the frat boys. He questions the leader about being called “Bernini Boy” and learns that it is the brand of coat he is wearing. After slitting the boy’s throat, he considers his coat and realizes he can’t remember how he acquired it.

The Long Bad Night (Part I)

Johnny (Joseph Gordon Levitt), a cocky young gambler, arrives in Sin City and heads to Kadie’s place, where he immediately hits the jackpot on multiple slot machines. Taking a young waitress, Marcie (Julia Garner), with him as a good luck charm, he buys into the backroom poker game led by the all-powerful Senator Roark (Powers Boothe). Johnny repeatedly wins in the high-stakes game, and cleans the senator out. One other player, the corrupt police lieutenant Liebowitz (Jude Ciccolella), warns him to flee the city, but instead Johnny takes Marcie out for a night on the town. He walks her home when Roark’s goons suddenly attack him. He fights them off and tells Marcie to meet him at a hotel before he is escorted into the Senator’s waiting limousine. In payment for the humiliation he suffered at the card game, Roark takes back his money and uses a pair of pliers to break the fingers of Johnny’s playing hand. They toss him from the car and the Senator shoots Johnny in the leg. Roark then reveals that he recognized Johnny as his illegitimate son. However, he remarks that he only considered his dead son Roark Jr. his flesh and blood. He leaves Johnny alive, preferring to let him suffer, and Johnny swears revenge.

A Dame to Kill For

Years before “The Big Fat Kill”, Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) attempts to put his violent past behind him, working as a private detective and leading a life of complete sobriety, struggling daily to refuse his inner demons. After saving the life of Sally (Juno Temple), young hooker, who is nearly murdered by her businessman lover (Ray Liotta), he receives an unexpected phone call from his former lover, Ava Lord (Eva Green), who left Dwight four years prior for a wealthy tycoon, Damien Lord (Marton Csokas). She begs him to meet her at Kadie’s saloon, and despite his embittered feelings, he agrees. When Ava arrives, she begs forgiveness for leaving him and implies she is afraid for her life before her massive chauffeur, Manute (Dennis Haysbert), arrives to escort her home. Unable to get her out of his mind, Dwight sneaks into Damien Lord’s estate, where he observes Ava swimming, but is caught and beaten. Dwight is returned home, where a nude Ava waits for him. He tries to throw her out, but can’t resist her and they make love. She tells him that Damien and Manute torture her physically and mentally, and she knows Damien will kill her soon. Manute arrives and viciously beats a naked Dwight, sending him out the window with a single punch.

Determined to rescue Ava, Dwight recruits Marv to help him, and they mount an assault on Lord’s compound. Marv attacks Manute, putting him in traction and tearing out his eye. Dwight confronts Damien Lord, who denies Ava’s accusations, and an enraged Dwight beats him to death. As he reacts in horror, Ava appears and shoots Dwight several times, taunting him and thanking him for helping her murder her husband and take over his fortune. She shoots him in the face and forces him to fall out of a window, where Marv rescues him and takes him to Old Town. Dwight’s old flame, Gail (Rosario Dawson), recognizes him and saves his life. With the help of Gail and the deadly assassin Miho (Jamie Chung), Dwight undergoes reconstructive surgery on his face and plots his revenge.

Meanwhile, two detectives, Mort (Christopher Meloni) and Bob (Jeremy Piven), investigate Damien’s death. Ava claims Dwight was an obsessive ex-lover, and he killed her husband in a jealous rage. Bob is skeptical but Ava seduces Mort, who believes her every word. They begin an affair and Ava pressures him to find and kill Dwight. When Mort, obsessed with Ava, attempts to track Dwight down in Old Town (an action that would break the truce between the police and the prostitutes), Bob attempts to stop him. An enraged Mort shoots Bob in the face, then commits suicide afterward. Out of options, Ava reluctantly partners with the mob boss Wallenquist (Stacy Keach).

Dwight (with his reconstructed new face), accompanied by Gail and Miho, poses as Wallenquist’s man from Texas. Inside Ava’s estate, however, Manute sees past the new face and captures Dwight. Gail and Miho strike from Dwight’s car, and Dwight shoots Manute with a hidden .45 he had up his left sleeve. Six bullets fail to kill him, and Manute aims shakily at Dwight as Ava unexpectedly grabs one of Manute’s guns, shooting Manute several times. She attempts to convince Dwight to pair with her, and that the pain he suffered revealed his true intentions, but Dwight shoots her mid-kiss, and she dies in his arms.

The Long Bad Night (Part II)

Johnny visits an unlicensed doctor, Kroenig (Christopher Lloyd), who shoots up heroin before trading his services for Johnny’s last $40 and his shoes. Realizing he left Marcie unprotected, Johnny rushes to his hotel but finds the Senator waiting for him, along with Marcie’s dismembered head and hands. Again, the senator lets him go. Intent on taking down Roark, Johnny scrounges a dollar from a sympathetic waitress (Lady Gaga) which he uses to regain enough money playing slots to buy his way into Roark’s game the following night. Playing a card shark’s con, Johnny folds his first few hands, allowing Roark to taunt him about his dead mother. He once again cons Roark into going all in, then reveals his winning hand. Johnny taunts his father, reminding him that tonight’s story of how the same man beat him twice will follow him for the rest of his life. His vengeance completed, Johnny smiles resignedly, a single tear running down his face as Roark shoots him in the head, commanding his men to get rid of the body.

Nancy’s Last Dance

Four years after “That Yellow Bastard”,” Nancy Callahan is in a deep depression over John Hartigan’s death. She is obsessed with getting revenge on Senator Roark for having driven Hartigan to kill himself. As she wallows in despair, the ghost of Hartigan (Bruce Willis) watches over her, unable to reach her but still attempting to help. On the same night that Johnny joins the backroom poker game, Nancy attempts to shoot Roark from the stage of Kadie’s, but she can’t bring herself to pull the trigger.

Nancy hallucinates a visit from Roark, and shortly thereafter cuts her hair and smashes a mirror…using its shards to cut her face. She decides to get Marv to help her kill Roark by showing him the scars and making him believe that Roark was responsible. As they step out of the club, they meet a motorcycle gang there to shoot up the place. Marv kills two but leaves their leader for Nancy to finish off. The pair mount an assault on Roark’s compound: Marv slaughters Roark’s bodyguards while Nancy picks off the guards with a crossbow. Marv is wounded, but Nancy continues on alone to confront Roark. Roark shoots her first in the side then the leg and is about to finish her off. Suddenly, Hartigan’s ghost appears in the mirror –startling Roark long enough for Nancy to recover and kill him.
sin-city-2-dame-to-fill-for-jessica-alba-bruce-willisThis is as visually stunning and as jaw dropping as the first film. I was thoroughly engrossed for 90 odd minutes, with the comic books faithfully reproduced. Something over and above many comic book adaptations is happening here, with plots stuck to with few liberties taken

The Federation Starship Enterprise returns to Earth following a battle with the superhuman Khan Noonien Singh, who tried to destroy the Enterprise by detonating an experimental terraforming device known as Genesis. The casualties of the fight include Admiral James T. Kirk’s Vulcan friend, Spock, whose casket was launched into space and eventually landed on the planet created by the Genesis Device. On arriving at Earth Spacedock, Doctor Leonard McCoy begins to act strangely and is detained. Starfleet Admiral Morrow visits the Enterprise and informs the crew the ship is to be decommissioned; the crew is ordered not to speak about Genesis due to political fallout over the device.

David Marcus (Merritt Butrick)—Kirk’s son, a key scientist in Genesis’s development—and Lieutenant Saavik (Robin Curtis) are investigating the Genesis planet on board the science vessel Grissom. Discovering an unexpected life form on the surface, Marcus and Saavik transport to the planet. They find that the Genesis Device has resurrected Spock in the form of a child, although his mind is not present. Marcus admits that he used unstable “protomatter” in the development of the Genesis Device, causing Spock to age rapidly and meaning the planet will be destroyed within hours. Meanwhile, Kruge (Christopher Lloyd), the commander of a Klingon vessel, intercepts information about Genesis. Believing the device to be potentially useful as a weapon, he takes his cloaked ship to the Genesis planet, destroys the Grissom.

Spock’s father, Sarek (Mark Lenard), confronts Kirk about his son’s death. The pair learn that before he died, Spock transferred his katra, or living spirit, to McCoy. Spock’s katra and body are needed to lay him to rest on his homeworld, Vulcan, and without help, McCoy will die from carrying the katra. Disobeying orders, Kirk and his officers spring McCoy from detention, disable the USS Excelsior, and steal the Enterprise from Spacedock to return to the Genesis planet to retrieve Spock’s body.

On Genesis, the Klingons capture Marcus, Saavik and Spock and before Kruge can interrogate them their ship signals that the Enterprise has arrived and Kruge immediately beams back to the Bird of Prey. In orbit, the undermanned Enterprise is attacked and disabled by Kruge. In the standoff that follows, Kruge orders that one of the hostages on the surface be executed. David is killed defending Saavik and Spock. Kirk and company feign surrender and activate the Enterprise’s self-destruct sequence, killing the Klingon boarding party while the Enterprise crew transports to the planet’s surface. Promising the secret of Genesis, Kirk lures Kruge to the planet and has him beam his crew to the Klingon vessel. As the Genesis planet disintegrates, Kirk and Kruge engage in a fistfight; Kirk emerges victorious after kicking Kruge off a cliff into a lava flow. Kirk and his officers take control of the Klingon ship and head to Vulcan.

There, Spock’s katra is reunited with his body in a dangerous procedure called fal-tor-pan. The ceremony is successful and Spock is resurrected, alive and well, though his memories are fragmented. At Kirk’s prompting, Spock remembers he called Kirk “Jim” and recognizes the crew.

Often derided as one of the poorer Trek films due to its chance place in the broad “odd-numbered film curse,” Star Trek III is one of my very favourites. It continues successfully in the vein of “Wrath of Khan”. The special features are extensive and interesting, for the most part. Klingon language creator and teacher Marc Okrand gives insight into how the language was developed for this film, and altered according to the great Christopher Lloyd’s pronunciations, while Industrial Light and Magic effects crew explain how they developed the designs for the U.S.S. Excelsior, Spacedock and Klingon Bird-of-Prey – all of which would be used again and again in the Next Generation. The director’s commentary from Leonard Nimoy is also one of the best commentaries I’ve heard for a couple of reasons: firstly, it is informative and gives insight to how Leonard directed scenes, and secondly it’s Spock.

valley_high_07Danielle is the leader of a clique of arrogant, mean high school girls; she and her rich friends Tiffany and Brooke care only about their pampered selves (although Brooke has periodic misgivings). No one really hangs out with them except a dumb jock named Gavin, and the class nerd Jonathan, and poor Danielle is getting nowhere with the popular guy Drew, even after she and friends accidentally killed his last girlfriend. It’s been a year, and Drew still ignores her – but he doesn’t ignore the new foreign exchange student Katarina. Since Katarina can’t take a hint, Danielle begins plotting her downfall. But there’s a slight problem: Danielle and her friends begin experiencing a level of high weirdness in which all three of them rapidly age. This serves to make Danielle more desperate than ever. She’ll sacrifice anything, even Drew, to get her youth and looks back.Image result for bad girls from valley highAlthough released to video in 2005, “Bad Girls From Valley High” was actually shot in 1999 and shelved because of Jonathan Brandis Suicide  It’s too bad this movie fell into obscurity because it works well for what it is. It’s got the pizazz and quirkiness this type of film requires and a number of laugh-out-loud scenes, plus there’s no unnecessary raunch or general obnoxiousness, except of course for the main “Hun” girl (Benz). Tanja Reichert is a highlight, but she appears so briefly she’s almost not worth mentioning; and Keena is a cutie but they don’t do enough with her. But Lloyd is his usual entertaining self. Brandis would commit suicide four years later and Leigh would pass away in five.
